I struggled with hating myself because I could not control my weight. I constantly thought about food and about what I would have for my next meal. I am type 2 diabetic and was taking so much insulin to control my blood sugar that I was on an insulin pump. I also have fibromyalgia and didn't move much because of pain and fatigue. I was beginning to doubt that I would ever be able to improve my health.
I've tried Optifast and the HMR programs. Both have their own food and are 800 calories per day. I did lose weight, but then gained it back plus more. I had also tried counting calories and low-fat diets with no success. None of these taught me how to eat or considered my individual needs, let alone my likes and dislikes. They all did nothing to address my relationship with food.
I did a web search for diet coaches, and MyBodyTutor was one of the results. Everything I read about it was positive. I was originally looking for an in-person coach, someone local, and I was a little hesitant to go virtual. But I joined because I was hopeful that I could change my relationship with food, lose weight, move more, and improve my health. My hopes were exceeded!
I relate to food differently now and in a much more healthy way. My weight loss has been slow; I've lost 50 lbs in 19 months. But most importantly, my health has improved. I no longer need any insulin or Metformin, and my A1C is the lowest it's been at 6.2. I'm taking much less blood pressure medication. Although fibromyalgia still limits me somewhat, I am now moving every day and can go hiking, which I enjoy. I am confident I will continue to lose weight and improve my health with the knowledge, methods, and tools taught to me by my tutor.
MyBodyTutor considers the individual. It is not a pre-determined program that is the same for everyone. Your tutor meets you where you are, considers your specific likes and dislikes, and leads you by baby steps until a healthy, sustainable eating plan is developed just for you. The tutor addresses the relationship you have with food and gives concrete steps to develop a healthy one. Physical fitness is discussed, and, again, they meet you where you are and help you improve in small steps.
If you're concerned about hiring a virtual coach, I found the distance of a remote tutor, or coach, is not a barrier. I never found myself wishing I had found someone local.
