Jacqueline
I was always hungry and wanting to eat, and I always felt like figuring out what to eat took so much time and effort. I often binge-ate snacks and my lifestyle was very sedentary (I could go for several days without leaving the house!). Due to these poor habits, I was having frequent health issues. I previously had a coach who recommended calorie and macro counting and food prep, but this was too much work for my lifestyle. I was also struggling with GI health issues that were not considered under this previous program. I didn't try much for fitness. I've tried step-count challenges and doing yoga, but neither of these really stuck. I did, however, take dance classes once a week. I heard about MyBodyTutor on Cal Newport's Deep Questions podcast. When I signed up, I hoped to have more energy and lose 20 pounds. However, my main goal was to establish a better relationship with food and exercise so that I could enjoy eating healthfully and exercising (if that's even possible). I was struggling with a rigid, fixed mindset, but I shifted from the mentality of "I can't change" to "it could be possible for me to change." However, I didn't fully believe that I CAN change. In my intake form, I wrote, "I'm not sure I fully understand how much I need to change my lifestyle to actually get the results I want (and I'm not 100% sure I actually want to change my lifestyle, but this is also improving)." In 1 year and 5 months, I dropped from 140 to 120 pounds, and this was due to changing my relationship with both eating and exercise. I have a much healthier and happier relationship with food. I don't restrict foods. I eat what I like and what makes my body feel good, and I still enjoy eating out and having ice cream and chocolate. I have also set up habits that work for me to make my meals stress-free. I tend to buy a lot of vegetables and fruits that can be quick meals or snacks, and I am happy to eat these foods instead of feeling like it is a chore. Also, I hardly ever feel the need to binge eat. When work or something in life is very stressful, I have new coping mechanisms and some self-care practices that allow me to de-stress without using food. Most importantly, MyBodyTutor helped me work with the GI issues I'd been having, and I now know how to eat to better manage and minimize these problems. I am also so much happier with my new relationship with exercise. Now, my main form of commuting is walking or biking, which I really look forward to every day. I've slowly worked in other forms of exercise, such as volleyball, and I've recently started bodyweight exercises. What used to feel like a huge chore are enjoyable activities that enrich my life and help my body feel good. I was originally afraid that it would be really hard work to lose the weight that I wanted to lose, but it wasn't! It was easy to make huge changes in my mindset and habits because MyBodyTutor helped me do it slowly and at a pace that worked for me. I am really excited because I thought it was wishful thinking to lose 20 pounds, but now that I've gotten there, I actually see I can have much bigger goals for my health and fitness. My experience with MyBodyTutor was highly individualized. I felt like every aspect of my lifestyle and personality were taken into account when my coach would give me feedback and suggestions. This highly tailored coaching is what made MyBodyTutor stand out for me. I've not only learned practical tips about eating and exercising, but I have also learned so much about myself. This program improved my overall happiness, confidence, and agency to make changes in many aspects of my life. Thank you, MyBodyTutor! I could not have done it without you.
