terrible outfit i called them out to my car on the first of march, over 4 hour wait and they recovered me to local garage,my local garage said they could not repair it the repair had to be done at a german specialist garage so i was back to square one.a week after the breakdown managed to get the car just down the road from my local garage and called the rac, four and a half hours later got a text saying dean was half an hour away, when he got there he said we recovered you here a week ago and we will not recover you twice i explained the situation and he was not interested or sympathetic charged me £121 for the recovery to the german car garage even though i had 1 recovery left for the year, and it got worse he said i would now have to wait for the pick up truck even though when i logged the breakdown i stated i would need recovery,so waiting again after two and a half hours i was getting worried that the garage my car was booked in for would be shut, then i got a call from a woman saying rac had given the recovery to them and they would be about one and a half to two hours, anyway fifteen minutes later a local pick up truck turned up it was like a breath of fresh air as soon as i got home i cancelled the firm is not fit for purpose (73 year old pensioner)

Rubbish company to deal with. Customer service is in India (They say they are in Manchester when you call but clearly not!) I cant understand what they are saying because there English language is so bad. This will be the last year I deal with them after 17 years of being with the RAC!

Like so many other reviews. Long wait for assistance, 4.5 hours. Messages and telephone calls advising us when we would have someone to us just did not happen. Very unfair to tell us when to expect someone and that not to happen drains your confidence in honest service. Will not renew

The RAC misdiagnosed my car having been incorrectly fuelled, they instead gave me a new battery as if flooded mine trying to start it, then it went again an hour later and they misdiagnosed it again saying there was air in the primer pump and got it going again. My garage knew straight away, as soon as they opened the bonnet and attended to the pump due to the smell of petrol. The car is diesel. They said had the RAC mechanic asked the right questions they’d have worked it out easily. I complained as I have a new (expensive!) battery I didn’t actually need but the RAC missed my complaint completely. I have now cancelled my membership as I feel completely ripped of and have no faith if I break down again a mechanic will be any good whatever the problem is- it took them 8 weeks to answer the complaint by the way.

Used app 10.30 in the morning for help as a lone woman then told help would arrive 7.15 pm that night. No help cover at all what’s the point. Total waste of money. Had to make own arrangements.

I had a car breakdown yesterday and called RAC rescue and they responded with friendly and helpful manner with an excellent turnaround time providing all support. Their mechanic Pradeep got my car up and running with his skills and expertise ! I am impressed by both RAC and all their mechanics, specifically Pradeep in attending car breakdown ! I am impressed by their service ! A big thank you to RAC rescue for excellent customer service and to all their mechanics, specially Pradeep !!!

I am a 77 year old woman I broke down at 12.15, was told I would be attended between 13.30 and 14.30. As the deadline approached they kept extending the time until when they pushed the 17.52 to 19.52 then to 21.52. Got a private company to bring my car back home. I will never take out breakdown cover again. Easier to save the premiums and pay an independent. So I have spent 7 hours waiting and paid £200 for the privilege. Absolutely disgusting customer service.

Terrible attitude I received from rac . I lost my keys and they sent me a company called we’ve got the key and they came out and defected two of my vehicles . I took them to small claims court and won and received money for the damages they had caused . I told rac and they didn’t want to no . A very unprofessional woman called Katherine Bennett was very rude to me over email . Such a shame a big company has a very weak minded woman working for them with a terrible attitude to her customers . (We pay your wages )

The RAC is a nightmare. My car broke down and the RAC estimated 8 and 1/2 hours before they could come to fix it. After a couple of hours the police said it was a danger to traffic and removed it. The following day i tried to get the RAC to attend the car at the tow yard, but they could not do it within the yards opening time. The next day was a Saturday, when the yard was only open a half day and the RAC would not commit to coming in that time. On the Monday, I called at 7 AM and they confirmed 8.51 arrival of the breakdown team. I travelled 60 miles to be there for that time but they cancelled at 8.53 AM. I did finally get my car towed by the RAC at 1.30PM. A complete nightmare. I complained and i was told my complaint was rejected and that the RAC would not answer any further correspondence about the issue

DO NOT USE RAC Broke down on a Wednesday evening at 8.30 pm was on the motorway M61, called the RAC they said as I was in a vulnerable position on the mway and the weather was horrendous, cold and very heavy rain. RAC said they would be there by 10pm Police came, I explained they were coming at 10. Left standing in the rain 10pm came and went I called again at 10.30 said it would now be 11.30, this came and went called again at 12am they then said it would be 1.30 am I was so cold by this point , the RAC did not care, the police came and called them but then said I needed a private company that will take me to the services for £200 After argument they agreed to pay for the private company to take me to the services, and collect me at 4.30am Got to 5am and they said it would be between 8.30 and 10.30am I then said I was feeling ill as I was still soaking wet. They then agreed to pay for a taxi but I had to leave my car there with the keys in it and they would bring my car back on the next 3-5 days !!! There is something wrong if a company can do this to people and still be in business

I pay full charge for the RAC MOT service plan and have been nothing but disappointed. Two of my bookings have gone wrong, resulting me in driving to the garage to find that the MOT booking did not go through on the garage's system. On complaining to the company, they said they could do nothing due to their own staff shortages and backlog. Staff shortages? If you have staff shortages that reduce your service, how about you reduce the amount of money I pay each month for your plan? I am disappointed and once my contract is up, I will never again return to the RAC.

Terrible experience. My grandad broke down 7pm in the evening and they didn’t arrive until 9pm the following night. RAC really shouldn’t be in business. They just subcontract all the work out and don’t have a clue what’s going on. Started off as they will be 1 hour, then not until 9am in the morning, then 11, then 1 and finally arriving at 9pm the following evening. How can you leave an OAP out on their own like that? We have had far better experiences with other larger competitors.

What a traumatic experience. Broke down on main A1M at 10.30 a.m. we were left on hard shoulder for 6 long hours. Multiple calls to RAC with false promises of recovery within 45 minutes or 60 minutes. So frustrating to be told through digital message to report online! Eventually rescued at 4.30 p.m. by lovely pick up man who had only received message at 4p.m.! Taken to local service station, another wait for 3 hours with false promises of being ‘called back’ by RAC staff. Eventually got through to an efficient RAC employee who arranged a cab to drive us home. Had to leave our car in car park with keys hidden on top of tyre. The wait of 6 hours on hard shoulder was totally unacceptable. No toilet available of course. As a couple in our late 70s we thought that having insurance with RAC would provide security. This was absolutely not the case.

This company is a fraudulent company. I had a full service where they lied on the report and then when asked for the diagnostic report they mishandled it losing the information. 227 pound to lie and prove incapable of a simple service. Don't waste your money. Customer service also making a statement of "oh sorry I'm trying not to burp down the phone". Rotten individuals.

This company shouldn't be doing recovery, when your car broke down at 1am, it takes them 8hrs++ to send a recovery. Called them at least 10 times, only when i told them i am freezing and not feeling well did they only send a taxi. 2 hours later, no taxi came. Decide to call a local taxi firm, and it came in 10mins. Really regret using rac, they are not responsible, does not even bother to rectify the situation... All they said is it's really busy out there.

Told 3 hours for tow back or up to an hour for tyre replacement . Over 2 hours later man in van turned up with his female passenger saying we can't come into the multi storey as in a van despite the fact we had said this was where we were. Dreadful service RAC and rude telephone co-or dinators . Filling in on line form when you are stranded with little internet is also ridiculous .

30 minutes to get through on phones, they want everything to be done online. Had to wait 7 hours for a mobile mechanic to attend. RAC kept changing expected arrival time. Cancelling membership.

DO NOT USE RAC DO NOT USE RAC - especially for Motorhome/ Caravan cover. We broke down 8 hours from home, vehicle wouldn't start. RAC towed us to a local garage, within 2 days the garage said they couldn't help, it needs to be towed to a Nissan specialist. We called RAC to get it towed to our home by a Nissan specialist, they said that while the car was in the garage they towed it to, it's MOT ran out (two days ago) and they cant tow a car without MOT. We can't get an MOT as the car wont start. We can't get RAC to tow as they wont without MOT. So our £26k car and motorhome (our second home) has been stranded 8 hours from home for 5 months. We're completely stuffed as we cant afford a tow. It's literally created a critical circumstance for our life and the complaints department don't care.
