“I am disappointed with this insurance company, I had no problem taking out the cover and was initially impressed with the glossy website and cheap cover.
Thirty days before the auto renewal date of the policy I requested a quote, unfortunately no response. According to the FAQs on the website, it says quotes will be sent 21 days before auto renewal date. Disappointingly I received nothing from ByMiles. I tried calling them but could never get through, I also emailed them several times but no response.
At this moment I thought I was fortunate not having to claim for an accident. It is almost impossible to speak to customer services.
As I was not able to cancel auto renewal, I was on the assumption my cover will automatically renew. How wrong was I! The day came and my policy was cancelled without prior notice, However this was not clear on the ByMiles app.
I eventually received a response after sending several complaints emails. I was told lies that an email was sent to inform that the policy will be cancelled. How ironic that I received all the junk marketing emails from this company but not the important cancellation email.
Please don’t gamble your money with this insurance company, who knows what the claim process is like when they ignore you and make up lies.”
“I joined by miles and have been sent the tracker. The tracker seemed faulty as I plugged it in the obd-2 socket it disabled my tyre inflation system, electronic brake system, engine system and car start system meaning the engine would not start to work, the car was dead! The first repair has cost me 1100. I contacted by miles and was asked for the miles tracker serial number. A software update would be given and I should try again. So I tried it again for a 2nd time and same faults again and the car needed a repair again this time it has cost me 350. I had my car repaired for a summary of 1450 and all I received is my insurance refund and an apology. No compensation or refund for the repair costs. Avoid!”
“Bought the insurance, fitted the tracker, but when I drove the car my foot dislodged the tracker. Tried to contact the company but their chat system through the ap was offline. Their customer service phone number was not given or I could not find it, so I cancelled by email. They advised it will take up to 21 days to get my refund, even though I'm in the 14 days grace period. Not a good experience. It's no good buying cheap if the customer service is not there”

“I have been with them for a year+ and believe me they are the worst insurance company I have dealt with in 12 years. When you have to buy a policy from them then it's easy but after sales service is the worst. You can't communicate with them on phone, online chat doesn't work and emails take many days to respond. Moreover, they can take decisions on your policy without any communication and leave you stranded. It's better to get insurance from bigger names. They might be a bit costly but are approachable in case you need them.”

“I would say I have left reviews for maybe 4 or 5 organisations in the last 15 years. It’s just not my thing. But, I’m doing this because I just find the service absolutely top notch. The concept itself is absolutely clever and in my opinion, ingenious and at the same time very simple and straightforward. You pay an upfront charge for when car is not been driven and then get charged per mile you drive. At first, I thought it was a gimmick; there’s got to be a catch. Maybe the by-mile cost would be high. Maybe the initial lump cost would be high. But nope. The mile cost is 3.1p per mile (slightly up from 3.0 last year, but that’s minimal). For my own policy, the lump sum was £178.73 for the whole year. This is a reduction on my last year’s bill, which was more than£200 (still low for what it is fir me). You know the crazy thing, this is including the premiumI had to pay for having a speeding ticket! So, it could have been cheaper!
I drive very little. About 4 to 10 miles per day on a 5 day week. So, it adds up to nearly nothing when you compare to what I’d pay for other types of insurance (I was quoted between £500 to £750) by other insurance!).
Then there’s the app. Very sleek, smooth and functional with tools to help you do all sorts of things. As a geek, this was an absolute bonus. You can see every single journey you’ve made, know exactly how much you’re using and how far you’ve driven. Your whole policy and everything to do with it is on the app. No paperwork anywhere. The app can wirelessly diagnose problems with your car and give you the problem code (right now, I have a p0646 diagnosis, which I’ll be taking to my mechanic). You can pre-plan a journey to see what it’ll cost you before you start and loads more….all in a very simple and intuitive app.
Are they perfect? Well, you are best off using this if you do not drive a lot or drive short distances to gain the most benefit. Even so, there’s a cap on how much you’re charged per day, irrespective of mileage (can’t recall the exact cap). Oh, and if you park your car and can’t find it, the app can help you trace the car! Fir me, it’s the best type and way to insure your car. I was with them last year and did not hesitate to renew (even before I knew that I’d be paying cheaper). Do not hesitate. Go for it!
