Absolute disgrace of a company. After tumbling downstairs and knocking over a tin of paint. They felt it necessary to get a forensic team in (not kidding) to look at the splatter marks alebit done by looking at pictures and to visiting my home. I have a disability so the fall was not pretty. They decided I had made the whole thing up. Livid does not quite come close to how mad I am. This is a legitimate claim and Halifax are wriggly crooks who do not deserve your custom. Avoid avoid avoid!!! I've had my personal life violated and scrutinised for a claim that is under £5k. If I could give a minus I would

It's not even Halifax! It's actually another insurance company so when you call them to inform of an accident not at fault they mark as fault send it off and the policy holder (myself) has to chase around the actual insurance company to try get sorted! Avoid!

You ask - "Sorry to hear that you had a bad experience with Halifax Insurance, What went wrong?" My response - Nothing has gone wrong, I won't allow it to. I insured my house, buildings and contents, last year for £269 and got £50 back after 70 days, happy with that (I was) but, the renewal documents have just arrived in the post and they're asking £297, sounded fair. No cash back offered, that made me try a little experiment. I went on compare the market using an incognito page and reversed the names of me and my partner, her name first, my name second and used the identical criteria that was used last year - same answer for everything. The quote received for identical cover was £129.20 No wonder insurers get a bad rep., they give nothing in return for loyalty and, as we all know, it's much more expensive attracting new business than it is to keep existing clients. Why are some so called marketing gurus so stupid as to try this trick year after year after year. Halifax, you had me, Halifax - you've lost me.

The policy is a sham, they will do anything to avoid assisting when you need it. I have had a claim free policy for years. My key can open/lock the outside of my front door but I can’t take the key out. Insecure outer locks are covered, but apparently as it will lock it is secure and not covered. Locked door with key in secure? Yes, I am sure the attached home policy would cover a theft in those circumstances, I am off to the financial ombudsman

If I could give minus 1000000 I would. Emergency cover purchased and never filed a claim in my life with any insurance company. The first time is needed it due to bad weather causing a leak in my roof they rejected the claim due to claiming it was wear and tear. The 3rd party company they used came round but wouldn’t go on the roof to check anything- wouldn’t even look through the loft. It took them forever to get back to me around the issue and I had to constantly chase them for any update- finally got an update that due to needing scaffolding the cost for the repair was too high- they knew when taking my money I lived in a townhouse😳 logged a complaint about it and they took 2 months to get back to me and say the same thing. If I can stop just one person from wasting their money I will be more than happy. They are the worst company I have ever dealt with in my life- I hope they go bust!!!

15-20 years of custom. Made one valid insurance claim and they refused to pay out a penny. Insurance is truly daylight robbery. I don’t know how they get away with it...

DISGUSTING - I contacted the Halifax regarding a leak due to a cracked connector on one of the bath tapes which resulted in water spraying to the wall and dripping to the bathroom chipboard floor underneath the bath. The leak was realised when I noticed a patch of water on the garage sealing and saturated wall blocks on the Friday and a Gas Engineer repaired the problem that afternoon. I contacted the Halifax on the following Tuesday morning and could not believe how I was spoken to and what I was being told! It appears that your are basically not insured for anything related to water escape, I asked what the policy covered and was told it was on an individual basis and she would not quote any detail, I was informed straight away that the claim was declined, patronised, made to feel like a criminal and even got dictated to by what sounded like quite a young person, advising me that I must take more care to maintain and protect my home! (As I have lived in my home for 32 years and unfortunately could not find my crystal ball that day to predict the leak, I did think to myself whilst being educated by this young girl of my responsibilities, that she probably does not even have her own home and probably lives with her responsible parents, therefore she has NO RESPONSIBILITIES!) Having been put on hold three times during the 53 minute farcical call, she VERY reluctantly and because of my request, agreed to pass my claim on to the company they use to assess the claim. Within the hour I received a call from the Assessor requesting an email of all photo's and a full explanation of the incident. The next morning the Assessor called me and advised me that my claim had been declined. Here we go again, another farcical telephone call.... He told me that in HIS OPINION the leak had occurred several months ago, even though I had told him it had occurred 6 days ago and assured him that prior to that Friday, there was NO wet areas in my garage...FACT! He then went on to say in HIS OPINION the ceiling looked new (not sure why this would be relevant)...WRONG AGAIN, the garage ceiling was done 13 years ago when I had the extension built! He then commented on the fact that the ceiling had not been painted! (again, not sure why this would be relevant) as I didn't think it was an offence not to paint a garage ceiling! Anyway, despite several pointless attempts to assure him that the leak occurred 6 days ago (TRUTH) and him being adamant that it occurred months prior (OPINION), I explained to him that both of us could not be wrong, therefore he was basically calling me a liar? He repeated that I could contest the decision ( hahahaha).. I replied to him "What's the point", to me there was no point as the BIG MAN with the POWER has decided NO...IN HIS OPINION!!! Oh by the way his name is JEREMY, just in case you may find yourself having to be informed of HIS OPINION, the expert! I have since cancelled the policy, which I had for several years and was paying approximately £500 pa. Halifax policies are not worth the paper they are written on. Having read some other reviews it's obvious that the goalposts get moved to suit, anything to avoid paying out and it's CRIMINAL. It's shocking that they are allowed to get away with these tactics. I will also be cancelling my Halifax Bank Account shortly and will never have anything to do with the Halifax again. So so unfair and WRONG!

Following significant damage to my home following a fire and flood. Halifax have been amazing. The company arranged for a company to pack our contents with respect and compassion. Then another company to undertake the repair and redecoration. They kept me up to date virtually daily, they even worked the period between Christmas and New year. The companies worked in close communication under the supervision of James Parsons. It was all handled with such professionalism and I would like to thank them all for the amazing effort to get us back in our home.

Very poor with claim handling they have a 3 rd party called BVS who handle claims and all they do is cut costs and you struggle to get your claim sorted like for like instead they try and offer you a small cash settlement that does not cover the costs

Lost roof tiles due to a storm but because the wind over 20miles away wasn't classed as storm worthy they won't cover us! Absolute farce!

The worst insurance company I've ever dealt with. Awful staff, awful service, excesses are higher than average and it's almost impossible to make a claim. I've tried to claim for damage to a shower wall after a pipe was leaking behind it - not covered. Damage to ceiling from leaking shower - covered but £350 excess. Asked them to investigate wet brickwork - they won't send anyone. I will never use them again.

I am not usually one to write reviews on companies unless they are acceptionally good or acceptionally bad.. unfortunately this is for the latter... If you expect to get a decent and fair settlement figure when going through a claims process do not go to Halifax for home insurance. Having lost my diamond from my engagement ring I am over 12 weeks into a dispute where they are only offering me just over half of what my ring is insured for. It is valued higher than what it’s insured for too, which makes the situation worse. They are still dragging out the process and saying they need more time. Not happy at all as all I want is a fair settlement figure for a very valuable and sentimental piece of jewellery. They are also holding my engagement ring band until the issue has been resolved. It is my property. Customer service and communication has been very poor. I have on several occasions asked for proof of valuation stating all information in relation to the valuation they have been supplied by Goldsmith’s Jewellers, this has never arrived. I have provided proof on two occasions from a diamond merchant that it’s impossible to come up with such a low figure - they have chosen to ignore this information provided. I could go on with this review but I think this says enough in itself. I hope people will think twice about using this insurance company.

Whatever you do don’t go near Halifax buildings and contents insurance. I made my first claim this morning ever. I was flooded out by my neighbour upstairs due to a blocked down pipe, the water went up into his partially blocked sink and came down into my bedroom. I had to phone the fire brigade to gain access to his flat-because he was on holiday. My bedroom, ceiling, carpets and lighting were soaked. I had no electricity all weekend. Because I had never made a claim I had a clause in my insurance which included any excess would be waivered amongst others “flood”. I was informed that I would be liable for £500 excess as I didn't have a flood it was an “escape of water”Also to top it off my premium would go up next year. I think this is one for RIp off Britain. 32 years I have been with Halifax buildings and Contents They pretend to reward you for not claiming then play with words so that you end up the loser. Tell me what is the difference between a flood and an escape of water. My bedroom was flooded out from upstairs. My ceiling might be ready to fall down and Halifax never even offered to send someone out to inspect it when I asked. I was told to source my own tradesman. A case of they take your premium over a 32year period and when push comes to shove they punish you financially Be very careful when you take out Halifax Building and contents it’s not what it seems. I am retired and can not afford extra expense

What a load of charlatans. I claimed for damp coming through 3 walls, their answer " the area had not had sufficient millimetres of rain to pay out" ! There's nothing in the policy to say I have to experience a deluge of rain, talk about worming out of paying. Don't touch this company with a barge pole, I wish I hadn't, they are a load of cr.p

Very poor service. Notified them of incident on Thursday night. Its process was apparently to send to incident management company who close for the weekend so car hire company can’t release cover car until Monday so no car for three days. Worst still, they started trying to blame the incident company’s processes. I have no idea who they are, I took out my cover with Halifax. Rubbish.

Horrendous customer service. We took out what seemed to be a comprehensive home insurance policy. We have attempted to make two claims. We were covered for both scenarios. The first time we were told to go to the expense of fixing the problem ourselves and then they might reimburse us. The second time, they refused to pay for a fridge/freezer which was damaged when the power went out in our home because nobody could confirm it in a report, even though it was impossible for this to happen unless they were there at the time. Absolute cowboys who will use any loophole to fail to provide the service they have signed up to provide. STAY AWAY FROM THESE COWBOYS!!!

Home Emergency Cover - paid for this for over 5 years now and only had one call out before for plumbing and that was a good service. However, this time 7th October took me ages to get through to book a call out for a heating problem. First time held on over 45 minutes, I had no heating and no hot water for 3 days. they sent a heating engineer out 3 days later, they repaired it but only lasted 2 days then faulty again. Held on once again to Halifax Home Emergency for 40 minutes, sent an engineer the next day but my heating system needed a new part - still waiting for this 3 days later - No heating and no hot water no call from the heating company !!! not impressed, they are using companies that are a waste of time and not willing to help with a home emergency problem quick enough !!! no customer service whatsoever !!! Halifax you are failing :( not a happy customer.

I wouldn't have even give 1 star . Disgusting, money grabbing, uncaring company. My parents had their house insurance with them. They both sadly passed away this year but we still have the house . Halifax have just sent the renewal. It's gone up by £50. A 50% rise in a year. Bloody disgusting. Keep away from them
