None of my chains will work. NONE. I will have to find a place to get new chains - as I already complained about this once to you.

Hi Catherine, our chains are made in the USA and are guaranteed to securely close. However, it indeed can be a bit tricky for people with arthritis and requires some force to snap the end-ball into the connector crevice, which is why we also offer a pre-assembly service. Here is a step-by-step procedure and a video: https://www.mydogtag.com/gear/fasteners?q=how-do-i-assemble-my-mil-spec-chains

I am a bit disappointed with the quality. I expected it to be better quality and not so flimsy. I could bend the dog tag in half. The Marine Corps pendent is also of cheap material.I would not refer anyone to this company.

Hi Victoria, Thank you for your feedback. Depending on when and where your original tags were issued there can be differences in the thickness of the tags and the exact metallurgy of the 304 stainless used. Our tags are the exact same as currently issued by the US military. To better serve our veterans we are working with manufacturers to have tags custom made for us using thicker metal and expect to offer this to our customers in 2024. Thank you for your military service.

The details of the dog tags are all correct however the size of each character is so small that they are impossible to read. If I did not know the data it would be very difficult to decipher. I'm sure that the font was larger on the dog tags that were issued to me in 1953. David Woelke US56196619

Hi David, thanks for your review and your military service. The size of the characters on dogtags has remained virtually the same from WWII to modern times, with the only change being a switch from debossed to embossed letters. As you can imagine, If the letters were any bigger all of your information would not actually fit onto the tags. That said, modern EMBOSSED tags are much easier to read than the DEBOSSED tags. We will contact you privately via email to arrange for this.

The print was correct, but they were basically plastic, I was assuming they would be authentic material, ie metal.

Hi Tyler, our dogtags are made of 304 stainless steel and meet military specifications. If you take it to a jeweller they can confirm the material.

I expected a replica of my original dog tag. Nope. The letter pressings were minimal and the tag felt like cheap metal. Chalk it up to my ignorance in ordering maybe, but I am not a fan of what I received.

Hi Michael, Thank you for your review and feedback. We have reached out to you directly to see what we can do differently to meet your expectations. The tags you received are made of 304 stainless steel and are the same tags currently issued by the US military. Depending on when and where your original tags were issued the metal can be different. Tags made between WW2 and Vietnam were generally thicker than modern tags. Thank you for your military service.

They were not as big as regular military dog tags and not as shiny I was dissapointed

Hi Terry, thanks for your feedback and your military service. The tags well sell meet the size specifications as per military regulations which have not changed much in 80 years, although the orientation of tags has changed depending on branch and era. We do indeed offer tags in dull, shiny, and semi gloss to match your original tags. Different branches and bases would issue different tags depending on what was available at the time. If you have a photo of your original tags we can match them exactly.

Dog tags were high quality but the black chain has thin paint that quickly chips and uncovers a silver finish underneath. Not satisfied with the quality of chain. It would be nice if it had a more solid finish that can take repeated use.

Disappointed in the quality. I have a set of tags from 9 years ago. They are slightly bigger and feel heavier and if better quality. The ball chain is better, too. Also, the pill box isn’t very tight. Im not going to use it for fear of losing my meds.

Hi Rich, it appears you ordered our red aluminum tags for your pillbox which are indeed much lighter and thinner than the stainless steel tags which we recommend. Please contact us via email and we will arrange to remake them with stainless steel tags.

You, idiots, have a live fill-in on the SARA BLACK example that allows a number to be put in by mistake. AND then you have it printed up and sent it to me. Who the hell is Sara Black? I have no idea but I have a useless pair of tags that belong to her. Rookies or stoners, pfft.

Hi Ron, 'Sara Black' is the sample owner name on our pet dogtag page here: https://www.mydogtag.com/custom-dog-tags/pet/dog-collar. It seems that you neglected to customize both dogtags in this template that we provide on our website as a guideline. We take great pride in making your dogtags exactly as they were to submitted to us which is why we provide a proof image after the order is submitted. We already reached out to you a week ago offering to remake your tags at a 50% discount as a courtesy.

You allowed nine spaces for service number. My service number from the 60’s is 10 digits.

Hi Larry, Thank you for your review. Our tags do accommodate longer service numbers. Our templates for the period of 1975-2015 however are set up for the SSN (9 digits) as they were used on dog tags. We have templates for other periods like the 60s which are formatted for the 10 digit service number including the prefixes. During the customization step you can also change or add information as needed. Have emailed you directly to see about making you a new set of tags that include your last number. Thank you for your military service.

Hi Donald, Thank you for your review. Our dog tags are made with the same size lettering as the US military has always used. There have been some bases over the years that end up with civilian embossing machines that use larger print than the standard military font. This is very rare though. Depending on when your original tags were issued they were probably debossed, meaning the letters are pressed into the face of the tag. The tags you ordered are embossed which are a lot easier to read however they will look a lot different than the older debossed style. We have lots of options to make dog tags that best match what you and other veterans were originally issued. We will contact you directly to see how we can make you a set of tags that matches your original tags. Thank you for your military service.

Letters were to small. Hard to read.

Hi Earl, Our Vietnam war era dogtag replicas are made according to the same standards used in the 1950s using an indented 'deboss' font which is indeed harder to read than the modern emboss font, but is true to the era. It should be noted that deboss tags were never designed to be read by people, rather their purpose is for transcribing the dogtag information to carbon copy medical paperwork (like an old mechanical credit card machine). Nevertheless it is possible to make them easier to read by rubbing in black shoe polish (a service which we offer), as shown here: https://www.mydogtag.com/blog/debossed-darkened-letter-dog-tags Alternatively, when placing an order we suggest choosing the modern emboss font (even when making WW2, Korea, and Vietnam era tags), if legibility is critical for you.

The dog tags are nice however, I was hoping since you promote authentic military dog tags the Strike on the metal would have been a lot harder and more pronounced as the dog tags I was issued in the 1980s by the U.S. Marine Corps. It is almost like you punch the letters for the opposite side as the USMC. I have provided photos. The dog tags with my SSN blacked out is my original issued dog tag the other is the one I received in the mail.

Hi John, Thanks for your feedback and your military service. The dogtags you ordered from us and shown in your first photo are modern mil-spec embossed dogtags. This raised style of text has been in use since the late 70s, however some bases continue to issue the 'debossed' or indented dogtags (shown in your second photo) even today. At mydogtag.com we are pleased to offer both styles of lettering which you can select from on our website. Please email us and we will arrange to send you debossed tags to match your originals.

Hi Joe, Our chains are made in the USA of mil-spec 304 stainless steel (see the USA stamp on the clasp). They will last a lifetime.

I was disappointed that it was hard to read the information on my Dog Tag, especially my service number.

Hi Marshall, Thank you for your purchase and review. The tags you bought have debossed text which is historically accurate for that period of time. Debossed text on a military dog tag is difficult to read as it was originally meant to be used with an Addressograph Model 70. This was a handheld imprinter that made ink stamps of the information onto paper records. If you would like to have your tags re-made using the modern embossed font where the letters are raised from the metal rather than pushed into the tag please let us know by email at support@mydogtag.com. Thank you for your military service.

Hi Marshall, Another option is to rub in black shoe polish to darken the letters. Here is a tutorial: https://www.mydogtag.com/blog/debossed-darkened-letter-dog-tags
