“Very shady. If you try unsubscribe after buying the $9 trial pack they will cancel your order. Now I am awaiting my refund.”

“Would highly discourage people from buying from this company. As you can see here and online, they scam you into a subscription that's impossible to cancel. However, they were running a special for purchasing a tester of each item for $9. I had read the reviews and knew to unsubscribe immediately after ordering this one-time purchase so I wouldn't get charged $60 a month. I did unsubscribe easily enough using their website. Then I got an email, allegedly from the owner, Hannah, telling me that, because I unsubscribed from the monthly shipments, she had cancelled my one time order. Not only that, but she attempted to shame me for "wasting her time" by ordering the items to try without signing up for monthly renewals. This is truly upsetting and disgusting behavior from a company that claims to be low-waste and ethical. Tricking people into a subscription is one thing. But trying to make someone feel bad for actually wanting to give the products a try before subscribing is a whole new level of greenwashing. And cancelling my order because I failed to get stuck in their scam is just silly. Not to mention, I still have not received a refund for the purchase I tried to make. TLDR: scammy, greenwashing company that's in it for the money. Shame on Pela for associating with these folks.”

“I've ordered the sample box for $9 US. I haven't received it yet, but I am annoyed at all of the people here that are complaining that obviously can't read. It clearly states that it's a membership and you "pay only $9 for your first order! Plastic free refills ship automatically at full price after 30 days unless swapped or cancelled." Geez, people are ungrateful, dumb and they are garbage for trying to sabotage because they can't read.”

“It took almost three weeks for me to receive my order.And was charged by my bank for an international purchase. I did not realize my ofer was being charged out pf Canada as the company advertises both US and Canada. I do love the shampoo bar, how it lathers and makes my hair feel. I have not experienced the dryness other experience but I don’t wash my hair daily. More like 3 times a week. But the conditioning bar never lathers nor has a positive effect on my hair. I have to use a regular conditioner just to get a comb or pick through my hair (I have thick, wavy hair). The deodorant is hard and rough. I like the scent. But it has to be applied multiple times a day. The lid doesn’t close easily, often catching on some of the deodorant as it slides down. The lip balm container is not marked so you don’t know what it is. I do like how it makes my lips feel, so that is a plus. I haven’t tried the body shampoo bar or toothbrush yet (also in my original order) but I would say with the expense, slow delivery and horrible conditioning bar, I would not order from this company again.”

“DO NOT...I REPEAT DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THIS COMPANY!!! I got a sample product through Pela and didn’t particularly care for it. It took so long to get here. I completely forgot about it. About a week and a half later $38.63 was taken out of my account from Habitat Botanicals. I never received an email from them saying I had a subscription or I was going to be charged. I sent the package back (unopened). I did not get a refund. But I did get another charge to my account for the same amount. Prior to this I created an account to cancel my subscription but when I tried to do so, it said I had no subscription to manage. I sent them a message to cancel my subscription and I have not heard back from them. This is a terrible business model! And sadly, it makes me not want to buy from Pela even though I love their cases just for partnering with this terrible company.”

“I signed up through Pela's promotion to get a sample for $1 one time only. I ended up the next month with a $84+ charge to my account. This company is a SCAM. I emailed support asking for a refund and was told to login and manage my subscription (which I never signed up for) but couldn't because I didn't even have an account. Whats worse, I was told I could not get a refund and I would have to go to the post office despite that we are on shelter in place due to COVID and mail back the 2nd package of soap I got worth $23 (that I never ordered) in order to get a refund for the $84 subscription. This is ludacris for so many reasons. DO NOT SHOP HERE.”

“HUGE SCAM!!!! They sign you up for a subscription you never asked for and will not refund your money without you shipping the products back. The products were also horrible and the deodorant does not work at all and has a weird texture. I wish I read these reviews before I purchased them. DO NOT PURCHASE THEIR PRODUCTS!”

“BIG SCAM!! After purchasing a pella phone case I thought i was getting a $1.00 lip balm sample. Deceitfully i was enrolled into a subscription. they sent me 3 more lip balms charged me $20.40!!! Best of all the package stated $3.00 value”

“I wouldn’t even give it a star but I had too. I got my package not even in a box it was a beat up envelope. The lip balm was melted and it just had a sticker on it with the name of the company not what they show. And the same with the deodorants... not worth buying again.”

“I wish I had read these reviews before accepting the “free sample” after buying a Pela case. I was automatically signed up for a $60 subscription without creating an account. The sample took forever to get to me, but my “subscription” arrived within two days of my card being charged, which made it impossible to tell them not to ship it. This feels so shady that I will never recommend this company, and unfortunately (because I do love my case) will no longer be recommending Pela either.”

“I was very disappointed with all the products. The main reason was the packaging. They look very different from the photos, they seal their products with a very cheap label that when you remove it, it obviously leaves the glue and paper behind and makes them look very ugly. And now every time I grab my deodorant it leaves very sticky glue on my hands which is very annoying. The scent of the products isn´t very nice either but I know that´s a personal taste issue. They don´t make it quite obvious that the prices are in USD dollars being that the brand is canadian. And ALSO a very important thing to mention is that I never subscribed for a monthly package and yet they automatically subscribed me to one and when i contacted them the only thing I received were automatic emails and copy pasted information. I never got to write to a real person. I´m attaching photos so you can see yourself.”

“resounding with everyone else, i was also scammed into a subscription. i had gotten some of the $1 offers are buying a pela phone case. the site talked about the membership perks but did not explicitly tell me i was signing up for it. i had gotten an email saying it was time to renew my subscription but i disregarded it as i had no account with them and never signed up for one. i then get a shipment confirmation for a subscription. i did get a response from the company but it was a generic one (my flatmate got the exact same one). i wish i read reviews and returned to sender instead of paid for shipping. products: deodorant is dry and doesn’t feel like it does much. the smell is also quite strong. the shampoo and conditioner bar dried out and stripped my hair (long, thicker, wavier). my hair didn’t feel clean, just as if i got it wet. it was an unpleasant experience all around. i will not be buying their products ever again.”

“I ordered a Pela case and was offered a free gift from Habitat Botanicals. They automatically signed me up for a membership and sent me over $60 worth of products and charged it to my card. When I went to return them, they would not pay fort the shipping costs. Very frustrating and not worth the free gift in the end.”

“I was excited to try the deodorant, lip balm, toothpaste, and floss, but none of them came in the $8 bundle! My bundle only included shampoo, conditioner, body wash, and a toothbrush. I was NOT notified beforehand, and my order still cost $8. I mean, I still feel like it's an good deal, with everything I got being $2 each. The products are okay, but I was really more interested in trying the things that didn't get shipped! Definitely cancelling my subscription.”

“I purchased the bundle special offer for $8, and all of the products are great. I especially like the bar conditioner, lip balm, and deodorant. The bar shampoo contains sodium lauryl sulfoacetate, which makes sense because it foams up way more than other naturally-derived bar shampoo. It is similar to a Lush bar. The bars on the site now have different ingredients listed with no SLSA, so maybe the formula has changed. Regardless, SLSA is still less harsh than SLS, and this might be a pro if you have hard water or struggle with waxiness with other shampoo bars.”
