“I recently decided to take my first pioneering foray into the world of 5.1 multi-channel cinema sound. I have procrastinated over the years due to the outlay and effort involved in setting up such a system.
I have only ever heard sound from my equipment through television speakers; causing me to ask myself if I was missing a trick with the advent of high definition sound offered by Blu ray and the newer games consoles.
Whilst I was tempted to go down the internet route, I decided it would be better to get the support of an outfit that deals with this stuff on a daily basis. I wanted to deal with real people who were local and who knew their onions. I also did my own research over a long period of time.
My thanks to Richard in particular, who was aware that I am not an audiophile and was working to a budget. With his expert guiding advice, I settled on a mid-range system that included an AV receiver, 5.1 speaker package from Q Acoustics, Pioneer CD player plus all the necessary interconnections and cable to get it all hooked up. The cables were terminated to perfection with QED Airloc plugs - by Richard himself. He ordered everything I wanted and it all arrived when he said it would.
As I had a good idea of what I wanted in the first place, Richard was very patient in listening to my concerns and helping me achieve the best bang for my buck. He did his level best to make the package as affordable as possible. It is very easy to get carried away and go nuts in such an environment, not once did I feel that Richard was trying to foist unnecessary kit onto me with little in the way of tangible benefit.
At this point I should say that I did not purchase everything in one go (it's a marathon not a sprint!) as I was adding bits and pieces as and when funds would allow.
I now have a system which sounds a billion times better than anything I have heard before! I am genuinely over the moon. The only thing that I had to go elsewhere for were the speaker stands as I had very specific requirements for the height and top plates. I have now had a set made up to bespoke measurements.
I will certainty make Richer Sounds in South Croydon my first port of call if I decide to upgrade my modest yet mighty system. There are some cracking deals to be had as well.
I really would like an OLED television to go with the new system at some stage in the future. When the price comes down, I imagine I'll be popping in to pick one up.”

“Seeking a new set of headphones. I had two models in my sights as 'recommended best buys.' The Philips Fidelio M1were on the Richer Sounds website but with the caveat that the last few pairs had been reduced in store, subject to availability. I tried to phone the Croydon store, which I have used before, but the lines were busy. As I had to go to Croydon anyway for some other more mundane shopping, I decided to take the hike down to South Croydon on the off chance. When I got there, the staff were indeed busy with other customers. I couldn't see the Philips or the other model of interest (Sennheiser Momentum) on display, but as the guy behind the counter was explaining the difference between different sets of headphones to another customer, I decided to wait my turn and ask. After about a minute of being in the shop (and while the other customer was busy listening to something) he asked if I was OK to wait while he finished with the lady in front of him. Answering, "Yes of course," but pleased to be asked. I took my turn. When it came, he informed me that both models were in stock and he went to fetch the last set of the Philips and both variants of the Sennheisers. He also quickly told me that although the Philips came up at £119.99 there was an offer on the website and they would be available at £99.99. He then unboxed those and the first and cheaper 'on ear' Sennheisers, suggesting I have a good listen and take my time, adding no opinion on the two models other than, "Let the headphones do the talking." . Asking if it was OK first, he then went to serve someone else, but checked back with me as soon as he could. With the benefit of a bit of time to play through several tracks, I ultimately picked the Philips, being pleasantly surprised at how close they ran the more expensive model. There was a difference, but not all of it positive with the Sennheisers adding a sibilance to a couple of the tracks I played. Whilst it was suggested that this might well settle down once they were properly burnt in, a useful comment and something that I was both aware of and agreed with, there was no pressure to go for the more expensive product. We even chatted about a customer coming in with exactly the same request the day before, but as he had ultimately been undecided that last set of Philips were still available. I came away with the feeling that for once all of the ducks had lined up, I'd got what I wanted, but more than I'd expected and also a bit of a bargain. Looking at the receipt it was Richard who served me, so thanks are due for polite, informed, friendly and patient service and giving me the time to make my own mind up without pressure. A very satisfied customer.”

“I went in to enquire about an AV receiver after having seen one at my brothers house. Adam the store manager helped me out by giving me excellent advice and some demos. After some discussion I purchased the Sony STRDN1040 which was the number 1 AV receiver for 2013 as voted by Which Magazine. Adam also confirmed this was a good selection. Adam then advised on a good set of Surround Sound speakers as the ones I already had were not up to the job. I purchased a set of Tannoy's at £200. Adam then finished off by selling me the relevant cables and a set of Sennheiser Wireless headphones.
He put a good deal together for the complete package and sold me a warranty (which is refundable if not used in the 5 years).
Throughout the whole process Adam never once tried to sell me more expensive items or items I did not require. He listened to my needs and provided me with the right equipment for my budget.
An excellent experience all round and a very good team of staff in the Croydon branch.”
