I was enjoying Volumio on my Pi2, though it was a little sluggish with certain operations. But I swapped into a Pi4 and it's a dream now. It was up with almost no configuration and had already scanned 500GB of music by the time I went to the artist list. This is a great option for folks who don't want to spend a lot of time to integrate their music into their home network, wired or wifi. For such a low-stress, low-effort solution, I could not be happier.

I have been using volumio for some time now, and I still think it is great. It allows me to enjoy my entire cd collection (2000+), on several places in my house. It runs on a simple thin client connected to an amplifier, (a HP 620 works fine), using a wifi tablet as a control plane. Easy to setup, and easy to control. Just download the apropriate image, flash it to a usb-stick, and you are good to go. All you need to do is create a central storage location for your music and point Volumio to it. As simple as that!

Volumio is great. It's easy to install and use on any device (though it's made to work on small fanless pc's like Intel Nuc or Raspberry Pi). It allowes to manage all your music library flawlessly. The playback quality is better than with Windows. I think it lacks two perks. The first one is real-time kernel. Everybody who compiled debian with it, tells that it's essential for playback quality. The second is using Volumio device as a USB flash drive. I want to connect it to my PC as a smartphone and drag&drop my CD rips inside.

I really like the possibility to execute Volumio on a tiny Raspberry Pi 2B and the fact that the whole OS loads in RAM so I can swich on and off the raspberry without worry about corruption in the microSD card. Good work Volumio Team!

I am using Volumio for many years and I am really happy with it. I use it on three devices (Raspberry Pi 4 with Hifiberry DAC connected to amplifier and the Pi connected to LAN cable). With Volumio I listen to Spotify premium, Internet radio stations and my own music library from a Synology NAS. Volumio works perfectly for me, and I like the really nice browser-based user interface. Setup is easy. You just have to flash the SD card, power it up, open the user interface in a browser and do some basic configuration like selecting the DAC. Spotify setup is easy, too. You just install the plug-ins for Spotify and Spotify Connect and enter the account details. Spotify is actively maintained with frequent software updates. This is a big advantage compared to buying a Internet receiver box from some audio manufacturer where you rarely get updates after some years.

I am using Volumio since the end of 2020. It improved a lot! It is truly "plug and play" and this is important for somebody who is not good with computer set-up!

Volumio 3 really reached a new level of dependability and audio quality, along with thoughtful design in the user interface. The experience of using it day by day can still be a little rough around the edges in some small ways (why does my Qobuz account just disappear from my sources list sometimes?), but for me that is more than compensated for by the technical excellence of the core software, by the strong sense of commitment and involvement you get from the development team, and especially by the commitment to FOSS, which gives me the ability to go in and poke around and even hack a little when I have to or feel like it.

I am using the software on a Raspberry Pi with an external DAC and I'm loving it. It's a great way to play music from my local storage as well as Spotify, Qobuz and web radio.

I have a custom made dac, controlled by RPI. The RPI's software had crashed. Initially I installed Volumio 3. With this the dac did play again, only at a pitch of about an octave lower. With headphones in the RPI, the good sound was reproduced. Tried to solve that together with Davide from Volumio. Davide told me that Volumio 3 is based on a different operating system than previous versions. I have a latest version of Volumio 2 installed. This solves the problem.

I own a Volumio Primo Hifi with a lifetime license for quite a time now. Soundwise it is all you can wish for! At first I used it with an analog preamp and therefor with its build-in DAC: excellent sound quality, nothing missed. I then swapped the pre for an RME ADI-2 pro fs and subjectively I could not notice a difference: the DAC of the Primo is outstanding... After I had update problems, which I could not handle by myself, Davide solved my problem online by means of a TeamViewer-Session. I am really speechless about the customer service: this is A-grade!!! And my apologies to Davide for me being such a looser in Linux things ;o). After the latest updates the implementation of Camilla Dsp works great so far: a must in my eyes to correct room anomalies! All in all there really is nothing to complain: outstanding sound quality and outstanding customer service. Highly recommended!!!!

The set up was ( very ) difficult especially for the HiFi edition because the lifetime password was placed in a very un-intuitive place. But once set up the system works very well and I’m very please with the sound quality! There should also be a SMALL LED light so we know whether the set is on or off.

Volumio is great project. It's not for an ordinary users, sometimes there are problems with plug-ins (especially with plug-in for Spotify) but it makes what I expected.

Excellent support from Davide, yet again. But my issue still exists even after a lengthy chat. There is something conflicting between my streamer/dac and the new version of Volumio, may be the AI does not want to play any music to me 😂

TL;DR As a Volumio user since 2015, the Premium plan is not worth $64/year (and please do not spend close to ~$1000 on their hardware). Their "Terms and Conditions" for paid plans leave you, the consumer, subject to drastic changes with no recourse. (I paid for a grandfathered plan 4 months ago ($35/year) and they pulled the cord on that plan recently with no communication, no offers to refund or prorate a new plan leaving me on the free plan). Their UI hasn't changed much since 2014 and overall the entire platform remains about as buggy as it was in 2015 (in my opinion). If you have a raspberry pi or other device lying around and the free version suits your needs, awesome. I'm all for open-source projects charging subscription fees but with that comes responsibilities which, as a company, they have not made a priority. r*oon is too expensive but volumio's Premium plan and hardware options are cost-prohibitive comparatively, for what you get. It's time for better options to surface. They're right around the corner ;)

I'm new to Volumio. I have just purchased the Rivo. I am using it in quite a high end set up with Naim amplification and Chord DAC. I decided on trying this product to achieve audiophile quality streaming. I'm very happy with the results so far and the sound quality is definitely what I was looking for. The next step will be a linear power supply to improve even further. Only one glitch is I'm finding when setting up is that the Volumio software is informing me that there is a software update and I have tried 3 times to load this. The Rivo updates and reboots and then it still tells me the same. I am on version 3.428 and it's still telling me there is a 3.435 update ?. Hopefully I can sort this out , if it is a bug. A great product and well done to the team.

I am new to Volumio with the purchase of Rivo. I am still learning my way around but have experienced a few glitches. One is likely with my televisions hdmi settings I’m still trying to sort out. Like I said, I’m still learning. Scrolling through my playlist seems to only be accomplished by swiping up or down, I would have expected a slider/buttons on the margin to slide up or down. When you swipe a “button” appears on the right side but I have yet to figure out any way but to swipe, which with a large playlist takes some effort. I’ve had a few glitches, the remote on my iPad seems slow to respond, once the player would not respond so I attempted to restart Volumio and after I had closed it a random track started playing I could only stop by shutting down iPad. User error, very possible but worth mentioning the few glitches in an expensive highly touted player. Aside from that sound quality is very good and the unit itself is very attractive. Still learning my way around.
