It's a difficult one. Nice enough staff when ordered a kitchen. We had their 'best ' fitter install the kitchen . As always with my luck, this was the first time he had fitted our model as it was a new design. So after cutting into our newly plastered wall to make the units fit we carried on. We then ordered howdens luxury vinyl rigid oak effect flooring with underlay... the experienced fitter layer it straight onto a concrete floor. It bounces and taps against the concrete. Cant decide if howdens mislead the fitter or the fitter has installed incorrectly without perfectly levelling the floor before hand. This is basically the trouble with howdens. You buy a kitchen and materials but they can get out of any ownership due to them not fitting anything. My advice would be to go to a dedicated kitchen company with fitters.

Overall experience was good when purchasing my kitchen however, once purchased, i found that their aftercare was very poor. I had issues with the worktop i purchased, shortly after it had been installed, i found scratches dents and chippings, i complained about the quality of their product but it was to no avail.

Bought a howdens worktop, it's one of the new line, Matt black with gold vein. It looks nice, but is not durable at all. It seems to scuff very easily & I'm becoming worried about using it, expecting the marks are going to get worse. Given my time again, I wouldn't buy it.

Why do howdens say they will phone yu back, then nobody can be bothered to speak to yu about booking a design appointment.

I thought shabby sales techniques were a thing of the past but sadly not! We had our kitchen measured and then has an appointment to talk about what we wanted. We found the process very cloak and dagger with no prices readily available and the sales person kept wanting to know what our budget was, which we didn't disclose. He then came up with a figure which we weren't able to see how he arrived at, which he said was discounted but we would have to pay for IN FULL today!! He lost our business at that point! We thanked him and left with no intention of buying a Howden's kitchen. A very unprofessional experience.

The designer did not know what he was doing wrong size drawers, not enough room for the fridge freezer. He also did not listen to our requirements and we did not realise until it was too late. We had been on this journey for 5 months and just wanted to get to the end. Having looked at other peoples kitchens from other outlets we should have gone with one of them.

Its a con, Installer tells end user to go to Howdens. End user goes in to depot, Chooses a kitchen gets it measured and designed. Designer calls installer (account holder) and asks how much they would like adding on to the price of the kitchen (for themselves) Majority of time it is over a thousand pounds, designer then adds this on to the overall price. Installer gets the money placed on his account. If the end user asks Howdens for a breakdown of the price, Howdens say they can't supply it, as its on the installers account... Meaning you have no idea what your paying for. Its A Rip Off Britain Story If Ever There Was One. Andrew Livingston (CEO) Wake Up

Ignoring emails about substandard oak for months. Despite sealing 40mm oak worktop ( I am ex aerospace engineer / woodwork teacher). Worktop around sink lifting, small bits literally fallen out. After many phone calls / photos Porthmadog branch did site visit and felt / took photos. I offered £100 toward the cost of new wood / new fitter. TOTALLY ignored my repeated emails for months. Not to be trusted When I threatened with deadline they offer a new bit of wood, only sent them two email that week,

Categories Blog My Reviews My Settings Help LOG OUT Alternate Text Sam Bird GB For businesses Your review counts! You reviewed Howdens Sam Bird Sam Bird 8 reviews 2 stars: Poor Updated just now They messed up the delivery and then we… They messed up the delivery and then we had to drive to pick up what they missed rather than deliver it for us. We were told by the incompetent kitchen planner that it would 'be tight, but itll work'. However the kitchen they planned for us didn't account for the decorative end panels on cupboards. So it fit perfectly with the ugly base white cupboards. Why would you account for the aesthetics in a new kitchen though? That'd be ridiculous. Basically ended up with a very different kitchen than what was paid for, and excess stuff they sold that wasn't needed. They get away with it because they usually work directly with trades people rather than consumers. Don't go with Howdens. Pick any other kitchen supplier.

The kitchen units may be good but customer service is dreadful. I've written, phoned and still no reply. It took them 3 months to provide an invoice which be warned has very little detail. Also surprised that the manager kept on telling me3 he used to work for Curreys!?

Never before have I been insulted, accused of lying, charged double for items, had second hand items delivered. My kitchen was badly planned, so unable to fit.. Also was delivered without an invoice. Also head office haven't even acknowledged my complaint. I would not give them the time of day, let alone my custom. I am referring to management, as the other staff are quite pleasant and helpful.

Hard to get in touch in case of the problem. Claiming to supply to trade where really they supply to anyone willing to buy their merchandise.

Howdens' Complete Failure in Design, Customer Service, and Accountability My experience with Howdens, particularly the Benton branch in the North East, has been nothing short of catastrophic. While the branch manager tried to mediate, it became clear that his efforts were severely limited by the constraints imposed by the head office's lack of urgency and disinterest in customer satisfaction. Waiting three weeks for a response to urgent emails regarding significant design flaws is unacceptable, especially when the response dismisses the severity of the issue. The company's stance, as reiterated by Louise from customer service, is a testament to Howdens' unwillingness to acknowledge the gravity of their mistakes. Their claim that the design service is "complimentary" and "for illustrative purposes only" is not only misleading but also contradictory to the promises made on their website about their bespoke design service. This disclaimer, hidden in the fine print of the planning documentation, serves as a convenient escape route for Howdens, shifting the blame onto customers and competent fitters for not catching their design failures. The offered resolution — sending a designer to propose adjustments, replacing drawers, and offering a mere £100 for the inconvenience on a project that cost £3,300 — is laughably inadequate. These gestures do not compensate for the fundamental design flaws that rendered the bedroom furniture unfit for purpose, with clothes unable to hang properly and drawers that could not open. Howdens' insistence on washing their hands of any responsibility by referring me back to the contracted tradesperson, in line with their Terms and Conditions of Trade, is indicative of their lack of accountability. Their readiness to abandon customers post-purchase, especially after delivering a subpar design that significantly impacts the usability of a space, is appalling. This entire ordeal has exposed Howdens' failure to provide not only a competent design service but also adequate customer support. Their approach to handling legitimate complaints and concerns highlights a systemic issue within the company, prioritising policy and procedure over customer satisfaction and quality service. The Benton branch's limited ability to effect change and the head office's dismissive attitude have solidified my decision to never engage with Howdens for any future projects. This experience has been a stark reminder of the importance of choosing a company that values its customers and stands behind the quality of its service and products.

2 Worktops in less that 2 years a third needed now - blamed installers twice. Poor quality work top - avoid. Howdens - will not even investigate failures. No customer services. Initially Howdens were okay however you find out what a company is really like when things go wrong. There are lots of 1/2star reviews all along a similar vein. POOR QUALITY PRODUCTS

We bought 8 no. firedoors and none of them was straight. Their branch representative came to inspect them and acknowledged that they were defective but their quality control department refused to replace them so we had to take them to court. Extremely poor customer service, so I would definitely not recommend them.
