Since we started our journey in 2001, our founders have been passionate about trying to find ways that will improve our companies environmental impact.
Our biggest use of energy is on our state of the art servers. We worked hard when we first developed the company to create a cloud based solution that didn't waste servers.
Reviews.io is designed so that it runs on a minimum number of servers possible. Our hosting team have created a solution that grows when in demand increases thus reducing the amount of power that we consume. Every one of our dedicated servers handles millions of requests and thousands of new reviews daily.
We Use Green Energy
Most electricity purchased from the grid has negative environmental implications - coal, natural gas, and nuclear energy. The solution to this problem is simple: anyone in the UK can choose to purchase clean energy to power their home or office - and clean energy is the way for us.
Our office electricity bill comes directly to us from Ecotricity. Ecotricity provides an option to all of its customers to purchase 100% renewable energy. The specific program we enrolled in delivers our electricity from wind turbines located locally.
As a result, 100% of the energy Reviews.io buys is Green-e certified renewable. We think it's pretty cool that everything we do is powered by the wind. We're also excited by the fact that it's easy to make that switch - we hope more companies will join us!
We have a kitchen facility available to all our staff to create their own lunch and make drinks, this cuts down on the takeaways and the waste we create. It also gives our staff the facility's to produce healthier options and reduce their own carbon footprint by bring in their own food and leftovers from home that would have otherwise been thrown out.
We are really proud of our office and when planning the initial set up and design we decided that we would consider the environment as much as possible. We decided to use what we already had. This involved two main steps:
These two steps not only saved us time and money it gave us a work space with a character that' nearly as individual as the team that works here. Our office has had a past life and story which we are now proud to be part of.
Our founder, Nikki is passionate about keeping our paper usage down to a minimum. We only have one printer in the whole office which she guards like a bank. To keep paper usage down we use email, Skype & Google hangouts.
We recycle nearly everything at our office, including rain water, coffee and pizza boxes and our office furniture. All of our office items have stories and we are happy to be part of them.
At the moment we don't do any carbon offsetting, but it's something we are looking in to. If anyone has advice on this, we'd appreciate a chat.
