The underlayment is easy to work with. It's like a thick felt. I used shop shears to cut it and I overlapped the bottom and sides. Its nice the company sent me extra so I was able to double up the bottom for extra cushion before my pond liner arrives. This stuff is thick and strong, glad I went with the 8oz one.
