Italeri's 1:56 scale Carro Armato M13/40, M14/41, or Semovente da 75/18 is an incredibly high quality model, made from light and durable plastic with even the rivets replicated in loving detail. The turret rotates easily, the interior is fully buildable, and a choice of two possible commanders sitting in the cupola can give this tank some real character. As it says on the box, the model can be built as a turreted tank (with minimal differences between the two versions) or a self-propelled gun with a smoothly pivoting cannon. This is where my very few complaints begin. First, there is no good way to switch between tank and SPG builds; the plastic is too thin and small to easily magnetize, and the attachment points are somewhat improvised to begin with. If you're indecisive like me, or on a budget also like me, this can be a problem. The second problem is that, as far as I can tell, the gun doesn't actually elevate and depress like the instructions say it will. This is because the mantlet fits very, very tightly into its mount, and the gun barrel is too thin and flexible to be an adequate lever. Finally, there are a few pieces, like the tow hooks, that are just so small that it's impossible not to drop them. Overall though, this is a really great little model, and I can't wait to buy the big box of three of them when I can. Highly recommended, just keep your hands steady.
