“I love this beer! It's so full-bodied, it's almost chewy. It's definitely one to sip and savour - especially as it's 10.5%. I like 75cl bottles and I very much prefer high ABVs, so this combination makes it my favourite beer - at least for now!”

“This is a lovely strong beer that lingers on the palate. It's definitely one to sip and savour. One 750ml bottle is a nice amount for an evening, given it's 10.5%. At the moment, the sale price is ridiculous - grab it while you can! The only downside is the wax that seals the crown top - it's tricky to get off as a sharp knife slides around dangerously. Yes, it looks good, but I think it's more trouble than it's worth. Update a few weeks later: Now that I've been drinking the imperial stout on a regular basis, I've noticed an interesting effect. I had a couple of ops for bowel cancer last year that left me needing to go to the toilet "properly" 3-4 times between going to bed and 1am and then every couple of hours after that through the night. When I drink a bottle of the VI before bed, I go once and then sleep through the night. Now, I may well be unique. I am emphatically NOT saying that, if you too have a gut with a section missing, your symptoms will be eradicated as mine have been, but it might be worth a try. I don't know whether it's the amount of alcohol; the settled yeast; or something else, but it's great to actually have a full night's sleep once more and I know it's due to the VI because, on the nights I don't drink it, I'm back to several bathroom visits a night.”

Hi Colin, thanks for the great review of the beer. We'll take your comments on board regarding the wax seal. We've currently got no plans to wax seal another bottle but if it comes up again we'll certainly take your comments into consideration.
