Beans Coffee Club opens up the opportunity to sample a wide range of coffees based, so I understand, on varietals of the Arabica coffee bean from different countries around the World. So far so good. The response to an initial email was slow, but the response was acceptable and appeared fairly well considered when it came. But the problems for me arise when the coffees are described. When coffee is described as having - Tastes of Plum, Tangerine, Caramel and Milk Choc, I am completely lost. Personally, I do not detect these flavours in any way at all and could not possibly use them to describe a coffee. I must accept that my taste ability is not sophisticated enough to appreciate the subtle distinctions between all the different coffees available - they are just entirely wasted on me. It appears that my taste is for a coffee with a small percentage of the Robusta variety of coffee bean blended with Arabica. To be told that the suppliers to the Beans Coffee Club only use Arabica beans as they are a better quality bean, was disappointing on two counts. (1) Not all cultivations of Robusta are poor quality, although in general it is lower grade and mostly used for cheaper products. (2) Evidently it would appear that my preference is for a lower grade of taste - hmmm, not sure I'd agree with that. So, if you can make a fine distinction between different presentations of Arabica coffee beans, then the Beans Coffee Club is for you. The club certainly provides an easy way to try Arabica based coffees from around the World with a comprehensive resume of each.
