I was looking for a trainer-led course to get me ready for my CCNA. I tried the self-study route for about a year and didn't get very far. I wanted to find a course where I could be taught the content but also practice the practical aspects. As my company at the time wasn't prepared to fund training, I had to find a course that would also be affordable. I searched online and came across Commsupport. The website seemed to offer the world - an instructor led course, REAL KIT, the chance to retake the course for free, access to live online training sessions, pre-recorded videos...the list went on. This all sounded too good to be true. I figured that with all this on offer the price of the course would surely be beyond my budget. I was then surprised to see that the course was over half the price of some of the better known training firms. This had to be a scam. I went to work the next day and spoke to one of the network engineers. I mentioned Commsupport and the guys face lit up. He smiled and said that he did his training with this company and that the course was great. He went on to tell me about Joe (The trainer) and to send my regards to him if I went on the course. This was reassurance enough and I booked myself on a 6 day CCNA and 4 day CCNA Voice package. TWO courses for over half the price of just the CCNA elsewhere. I phoned up and spoke to Anthony who gave me some more information and took my booking. Soon after I received emails informing me of how I can access the online training videos and instructions on joining the live instructor led online training. I watched the videos (which were more thorough and informative than a well known 'nugget' provider) and I also took part in the weekly webinars. By the time I attended the classroom course I'd already got a feel of Joe's humour over the webinars and I knew that the course would be fun as well as productive. The classroom was well lit and air conditioned. Each desk had real switches and routers on it which would be used for the labs. The great thing with how Joe operates is that he will teach a section and then get the students to practice by doing a lab. Joe insists on wiping the configs from the equipment at the start of every lab and configuring everything from scratch. This is great because by day 6 I'd reconfigured the routers and switches so many times that it became second nature and the labs that we'd covered on previous days had stuck in my mind. Once the students finished the labs and were happy that they'd got everything configured correctly, Joe would check their work and then make changes on their switch to resemble a troubleshooting scenario. The students would then have to try and find the issue and fix it. I've been on a few different courses through my new job and none of them offered 'real life' troubleshooting scenarios. Instead they just make you follow a pre written lab and rush you to move on to the next topic. The other great thing was that Joe covered a lot more detail beyond the scope of CCNA and regularly verged into CCNP territory. This was good news for me as by the time I got round to doing my CCNP switch exam, I felt confident that a lot of the topics had been covered and only had to do a bit more studying to get exam fit. I can't speak highly enough of the course as it is the only course I've ever been on that genuinely prepares the student for real life scenarios. Joe's commitment can be seen through the sheer amount of time he devotes to both the classroom and the live online training in the evenings. Two weeks after completing the classroom course I passed my CCNA with 94%. I would highly recommend Commsupport to every man and his dog!
