Expensive membership, scarce work – drivers left out of pocket
Review (≈180 words):
I joined Courier Exchange after paying £2,000 + VAT for “non-refundable” software and taking out the Goods-in-Transit insurance they recommend. I was assured that the platform would give me enough loads to make a living, but reality was very different.
• Hardly any return jobs. When I did get an outbound load, I almost always drove home empty, wiping out the profit.
• Long payment terms. Many loads pay 45-90 days after delivery, yet fuel, insurance and maintenance are due immediately.
• All risk on the driver. CX makes money upfront from the membership fee and (it appears) commissions on the insurance they push, while we drivers gamble our savings and often end up in the red.
• No transparency. If work were truly abundant, CX could just hire drivers directly and pay a fair wage – but they don’t.
After months on the platform I’m filing a tax return that shows a loss, not a profit. Unless CX drastically changes its model or refunds fees to drivers who can’t secure work, I cannot recommend this service to anyone.
