The flat certainly manages to capture both elegance and homeliness at the same time. The elegance is immediately apparent from the outside, in that the flat is toward the centre of one of Edinburgh's famous crescents, facing a large private garden shared with neighbouring residents. Inside, the lounge is particulary impressive with its high ceiling and tasteful decor. In terms of homeliness, the flat is, quite simply, very comfortable: just about everything is there to make this a relaxing place to be. If you turn left out of the front door, leaving the quiet of the flat, and walk for a couple of minutes you'll be on Stockbridge's main road, with its variety of small shops, restaurants, pubs and a couple of useful smaller supermarkets (with a large Waitrose about 10 minutes walk away). The city centre can be reached either on foot or by bus. The Royal Botanic Garden is an easy and pleasant walk.
