This was one of the cheapest insurers I found. The app helps me keep an eye on how well I'm doing. But the box doesn't take into consideration how new you are to driving or if you haven't driven for a few years. New driver or someone who hasn't driven for a few years will not be smooth on the gear change/ hill starts or breaking so your score will always be low. I find that when I feel I haven't driven smoother and better my score is worse than if I've had a bad drive. I don't feel the scores are very well done and I feel it really makes you feel frustrated. I try to improve and have improved since I have been driving again but my scores haven't really changed. The cash reward is harder to get the further into the policy you get, a score of +5 on your first quarter will earn you £20 but a +5 on your second quarter will only earn you £14. I understand that they want you to improve to get better rewards but it's not as easy as it sounds. I drive the roads daily and it's frustrating when you get a bad score when you know you have driven very smoothly, at a good time of day and have stayed at the speed limits. You also can't find out where on your route that you go wrong and so you can't attempt to improve if a certain road seems to be causing you to have a lower score. A box is a lot of pressure and I found that at first I spent most of my time worrying about if I'm doing things right for the box and not really concentrating on actually driving. I would check my score after every drive, and now i don't really think about it. The scoring system isn't really reflecting your actual driving, on a few occasions I have had to break slightly harder because people have pulled out of roads infront of me, my score is affected but the fault was not my own. This also makes you frustrated with the box and the way it works. In many ways the box is an advantage but in many ways it isn't. I would recommend the box to new drivers but not those who have had a few years experience, it's not helpful to everyone. The only advantage is a low insurance quote for the first year, if you get bad scores your insurance will go up. It's a good idea to get you your first years no claims but after that I would go through a normal insurer.
