Judy Gunson
Chaucer has not publicly ruled out underwriting insurance for the East Africa Crude Oil Pipeline project. EACOP will devastate lives, livelihoods and economic systems – and it’s already doing so. In total, over 100,000 people in Uganda and Tanzania will permanently lose land they rely on, and many will be forcibly removed from their homes. Many have already been displaced, facing harassment, intimidation, and inadequate compensation. Chaucer should join other global insurance entities in denying cover for this environmentally devastating and locally exploitative project, which more than a million people have already raised objections to.
