Terrible experience with Hughes. Tried to insure a new car only to be told that my options were (1) to apply for a change of vehicle on my current policy (which had 6 days' left to run) at an admin cost of £55.84 or (2) to cancel the existing policy and get a new policy for the new car for an admin fee of £60. I was told that if I chose the latter I would also lose my 8th year NCB as it was so close to renewal. I explained that if they could provide a competitive quote I would be renewing with them anyway but they demanded that I pay an arbitrary admin fee either way. Despite numerous calls and emails on my part they refused to provide a quote until the day before my policy was due to expire in the hope that I would acquiesce into renewing with them. When the quote did come, it was almost 50% higher than Admiral's Platinum Policy (which had all the bells and whistles). Included in Hughes' quote was, of course, a further 'admin renewal fee' which would apply in ADDITION to the above cancellation fee. They have also been steadily increasing my premiums over 8 years' despite my no claims history. Save yourself the money and go to MoneySupermarket.com for a more competitive quote.
