I received a copy of the Guardian newspaper dated 18 September 1980 from my father on the occasion of my 41st birthday. It gave me an interesting insight into the world into which I was born. In those days inflation stood at 12% and would rise even higher - perhaps a precursor of what may happen in the next few years as the COVID bills come in. Unlike today, there was little emphasis in the newspaper on issues such as gender equality, racism, global warming and euro phobia. Sport still occupied a significant portion of the back pages of the newspaper as it still does today.
