This was my second Pixel 7a battery replacement. The whole process went pretty well, better and faster than the first replacement.
I bought real Torx Plus 1IP and 3IP bits (plus a nice 1/4" bit driver from iFixit). They were a bit expensive and hard to find, but they probably make things go better -- I didn't have any Torx issues.
I used the iFixit iOpeners, even though I have a heat gun (which is hot and noisy). (Since it seemed less expensive to buy the whole battery+tools kit, than battery+adhesive strips, I had two iOpeners.) The iOpeners did the job, but it was nice to have two of them when I loosened the battery adhesive.
My second case opening went much more quickly than the first. I used more heat and more force.
On my first battery replacement, I broke the flash board from the rest of the assembly. The second time, I heateded the flash board more, and then carefully used a utility knife to remove the copper foil.
I had difficulty getting the case adhesive properly in place, when I was reassembling the phone. There is apparently some trick to doing this nicely, which I haven't learned yet.
Overall, the battery replacement was straightforward, although tedious. I'd do this again to keep my Pixel 7as going.
