We are addicted to these glasses. We believe they are the best wine glasses in the world. We first came across them on a trip to Piemonte in 2023. We took a photo and then bought two of each style when we got home so that we could try them all before we made a larger investment. They are expensive but so are the competitors, which we also tested. We have now grown our collection to approximately eighty glasses and just ordered six more No. 3’s needed for an upcoming large dinner so that each guest could have two of the No. 3’s. We have Nos. 1 - 4 and 10 (Eau de Vie), as well Decanter No. 8 (Magnum). They are all amazing at enhancing the nose versus the Riedel Vinums we used to use. We use the No. 3’s on an almost daily basis, even with older bolder whites. It is like having a small decanter. We use the No. 2’s for older wines where we don’t want as much aeration. And we love bringing out the No. 10’s at the end of a dinner, with their hard to believe stems creating a sense of awe for our guests. We use the No. 10’s with port, tequila, grappa, scotch and even rums.
We went a different direction with water glasses.
We are starting to see these glasses and decanters in finer restaurants. We actually let out a small laugh of delight when they were set in front of us a week ago at SAMMARCO steakhouse in Toronto, Canada. It led to a whole discussion with the Sommelier and our guests about the history of the glasses, Kurt Josef Zalto, the different shapes and the profound effect they have on the nose of the wine. That discussion, and the resulting interactions with the Sommelier, became a significant part of the enjoyment of the evening.
We do break some but overall they are much more durable than you would expect. They have some flex in the bowls.
Our wish list is that Josephinhutte will eventually make a long stemmed Coupe. We had to go in a different direction but actually looked for something that matched the long stem style of the No. 10’s.
If you are thinking about these glasses, they are worth it.
I have attached a couple of photos of the glasses lined up for a dinner party next weekend.
