I ordered a new Magna Switch Unit, Heating Elements, and Solder Bits for my TCP Iron. On receipt I find that the new Solder Bits do not fit the Heating Element just received nor does the Barrel I have. On querying this, I find that Weller have changed the diameter of the Heating Element, but there is no mention of this in any of the details for the products. I am then informed that the only way round this is to order a new Barrel and New Solder Bits to Fit. This now makes what was an expensive repair, even more expensive; particularly as I am having to pay twice for the Solder Bits. I have decided that in the long run it is going to be cheaper to just buy cheap soldering irons instead of trying to maintain a very expensive system, and scrap the Weller altogether.
Just a pity that no one at that end processing the Order picked up on the fact that the bits ordered would not fit the other parts ordered at the same time, namely the Heating Element. Obviously the staff processing these orders have no Product Knowledge. To them they are just code numbers.
