Most of our experience with Rhubarb was efficient and professional, but the retrieval of our deposit, management of which they outsource to an agency, was sadly reminiscent of experiences as a student with less scrupulous landlords many years ago. Though we spent a whole day cleaning our flat (one bedroom, one bathroom and a living area, used only as a pied-a-terre) from floor to ceiling, and employed a professional cleaner for the oven, we were hit with a £188 'deep clean' bill, as well as charges for items alleged to be missing but actually there, and damage which was noted by us earlier in the year and not repaired, or never took place, most of which costs were immediately set aside by Rhubarb. The cleaning cost, however, seems to be a standard item, and no acknowledgement was given to our contribution to this, so the message is clear: why pay a (very expensive) cleaner and do the cleaning yourself? In fact we discovered items of the previous tenants' in our cleaning (under the sofa cushions, for instance) which were not removed on the previous 'deep clean', so we're not even sure what Rhubarb are paying for. We certainly left the place in a better condition than we found it, but still had to suffer the £188 deduction from our deposit to get anything back. Don't let the fact that this work is done through an agency so that Rhubarb deny responsibility, or the competence of their core staff through the year, lead you to let your guard down at the end. And don't bother cleaning up.
