Oh my goodness. I love Cara and Taking Cara Babies. Cara's advice and guidance and love and support through these online programs has been everything to as my partner and I navigated the sleep habits of our first child. If you are considering whether you need these programs, my advice is to get them. I was sleeping with my baby on my chest for the first 5 weeks of his life, while my partner stayed awake and watched us on the monitor. During the day, baby was sleeping in a wrap, and I pretty much never sat down. Cara restored us to a sense of normalcy when I discovered her newborn class at 5-weeks old, and we learned the joy and ease of swaddling (even though we thought before that that our baby hated to be swaddled!) and gained the ability to rock him to sleep and lay him down in a crib. It was still hard, but it was light years easier than before. I also used her Navigated 3-4 months package. More recently, we used the ABCs of Sleep and Conquering Naps programs. We did okay until about 6 and a half months old, but by then things were getting a little chaotic again: we were up anywhere from every 30 minutes to every 2.5 hours at night, sometimes nursing, sometimes rocking, and baby was just not sleeping soundly. So we implemented the ABCs of Sleep "sleep training" program. Now, 5 weeks later, baby is sleeping 11-12 hours a night with no problem. We were able to wean him from night feedings within 3 days of following Cara's program. Over the first week or so, he cried for about 20-30 minutes after we put him into the crib, but starting Night 1, he was able to sleep for 10+ hours straight with one bout of crying in the middle of the night. After that, he has never needed pop-ins in the middle of the night. Over the next couple weeks, the crying at bedtime reduced to anywhere from 0-15 minutes, with some light fussing once or twice throughout the night, and concentrated in the mornings. But with Cara's advice, we were able to navigate it all in a very loving, supportive way. Even now, baby cries a little bit about half the time when we first put him into the crib or when we first leave the room, but it is something we know is okay for him as he falls asleep on his own. Now, we all look forward to our lovely bedtime routine and to having this peace and normalcy in the house during the night. Conquering Naps has also been great as we've already transitioned from 3 naps to 2. We haven't decided to do nap training yet, but we still enjoy rocking our baby to sleep for those naps, and it doesn't seem to affect his ability to sleep at night. In those first four weeks of baby's life, things were so physically hard and chaotic due to baby sleep. Cara restored us to peace and a bit more understanding and control over our situation. She expresses such understanding and kindness in her programs. She saved us, and I recommend her programs to every new mom that asks my advice!
