I did not want to sleep train. We co-slept for 18 months and I don’t regret it, but it was time for a change for our family. We were each averaging 6 hours of broken sleep. My 1.5 year old woke up every two hours and couldn’t fall back asleep without a parent. I couldn’t image sleep training would work for our strong willed independent child without breaking her spirit or leaving her to cry for hours. The bedtime book followed by laying her to sleep AWAKE and following the pop in method WORKED. My husband and I both cried the first night we watched her walk back to her floor bed and calming go to sleep-then staying in bed asleep until morning. Her sleep cycle has lengthen and now she’s sleeping most nights from 7-6 am. She’s happier during the day and takes better more predictable naps. The other night after snuggles and our bedtime routine I said goodnight and she laid down and put herself to sleep like magic. Now baby sitters or relatives can put her to sleep and my husband and I have the freedom to go on a date.
