Early Spring five years ago I saw my first picture of a Tensile tent. Everyone remembers seeing their introduction to tree tents. I’m a side-sleeping 225lbs man that lives in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains. I camped, uncomfortably, in tents and hammocks, on pads and cots, in rain and snow for years. When I saw a tree tent, I tingled. So, I saved. My dream arrived in June. The first set up requires some trial and error. Don’t take it out at dusk for your primary shelter on the first set up. However, subsequent attempts were met with a clear action plan and understanding of the limitations. Finding the “perfect” set of trees hasn’t happened yet, so don’t think you have to. Setup takes some learning, but if you take it out for day trips and set it up under no stress, you’re going to master it. Takes me about 12-17min, including rain fly and scouting. If there are trees, you’ll probably be fine. It’s heavy. I canoe camp so that matters very, very little to me. Especially weighing against the next bit: I sleep. Good lord, I sleep. I set it up for day use, I enjoy the views, I enjoy the dry area underneath the tent, but none of that compares to the fact that I get to sleep at night. I’ll never go back. There are a ton of little details that tensile has put into this tent. It’s obvious that they’re growing as a company and not just financially, but they’re growing their products. They release videos of tips and tricks to making your set up easier, and every one of them is useful. I highly suggest, especially to those who don’t sleep well on the ground, that you give this tent a try. I’m using a Stingray, and although it’s not “cheap”, after all the money I could have saved on products to try and give me a comfortable night, it’s actually very reasonable. I’m very excited to get into the woods again. The only down-side is that other campers will certainly have questions for you. But when you love this tent like I do, you’ll literally invite them in like I do too.
