I have had several pet insurance policies for my cat, but this was the first time I had to claim for my 16-year-old cat. My cat had glaucoma and has had it for about a year and a half. Recently the vet advised the glaucoma was causing him pain and recommended they remove the eye. I obviously didn't want my cat to be in pain, so we agreed to the operation at a cost of around £1,000. We could not afford this, but we had insurance that we have been paying for, so thought this would be fine. I was wrong, and the claim was denied due to a technicality. The condition is pre-existing, given it was first identified over a year ago. Even though The Insurance Emporium accepted glaucoma might last several years, my challenge was denied. "We also appreciate that Glaucoma is an unpredictable condition and can be either severe from the start or develop over time and take several years, but regardless of which way this goes, we cannot change the terms of the policy to suit an individual medical condition, the terms of the policy are set from the very beginning." Due to this "technicality" me and my family are now really stretched. I cannot afford this £1,000+ bill plus the cost of the premium I have paid over the last few years. I have since looked at other insurance providers where this would have been covered, so I just hope this review serves as a warning for people to check the policy terms and conditions in more detail. I am now struggling financially after paying for a policy I thought would protect me from this very thing. If you even care The Insurance Emporium I hope you review your policy terms and conditions.
