I am a frequent traveller who often needs malaria tablets...... I have always been a bit skeptical of 'online' meds, particularly when there are other medical conditions/tablets to consider.
Having daily tablets for (controlled) high blood pressure, I am very aware that some 'common' choices of other meds are unsuitable for me (can't have Ibuprofen amongst other usual stuff).
Again, I am aware that Malaria tabs can be a bit of a minefield to various people, with some getting side-effects whilst others don't.
Having had great input from my own NHS Doctor previously, I was aware of my (limited) options, and knew what I wanted for this trip.
I decided to use the 'online consultation' as opposed to my existing prescription, just to see what I would be sold........
..... whether I'm a realist or a cynic is up for debate, but I half expected to be told that I should buy whatever gave the most profit to the seller.
The consultation takes the form of a few pages of questions (detailed!) and ended with giving me options for the tablets I needed. It gave details of possible enhanced side effects due to my other medications - specifically, it didn't try to sell me the one drug which WILL make me ill (but is the 'best' anti-malarial for the area I am visiting), or Larium (which *may* send me mad(er) ).
It recommended Doxycycline for my particular requirements (which is what I wanted to buy anyway as I know I have no reactions to it, and it is what my own Dr has prescribed previously), whilst pointing out that it is a broad-spectrum antibiotic with anti-malarial properties, but NOT the most effective anti-malarial drug availlable.
All in all, just what I was expecting (hoping?) for, and specific to my own circumstances.
The tablets arrived quickly, and at a good price.
I suspect that other sites my just have tried to sell me a different item, but travelpharm gave me what I needed.
