Tutorfair is perhaps the most rationally organised tutoring website, allowing tutors freedom to set their own charges and clients to select the criteria in searching for suitable tutors and estimate the worth of what they will be getting by a discriminating consideration of the tutors’ own blurb and previous reviews. Some sites err towards being unmonitored free-for-alls, others a rather arcane allocation of tutors to clients on rates and criteria known only to the Fates. I shall not name names. Tutorfair is a light-touch operation hitting the sweet spot, and whilst a fifth of the fee goes to the company, this means, for example, that they monitor their tutors efficiently for credentials and safety and that, if a client thinks the tutor was rubbish, they will refund the money, whilst not penalising a novice tutor who may well be honing their craft.
