I have never had to complain at a restaurant in my life until today. We came here for a Valentine’s Day expecting to have a lovely night as this Indian has been recommended to us previously . Upon arrival we were given a set menu which was £50 a head . I asked if we had to have this menu as there was no advertisement of it online when I booked and we would have preferred to choose our own food . The male waiter told us they were only doing the set menu that night. He then explained we had to have everything off the menu. This menu was very limited for option and seemed they had just put the cheapest things off their normal menu into this set menu. We had 2 popadums , 4 starters EACH , 3 curry’s , saag aloo , a rice and Nan bread. ( we didn’t want to eat this much hence the fact I asked if we could order of the normal menu ) . The chicken on my starter was bright pink and the tandoori starter had no meat on it whatsoever. The curry’s had around 6 tiny chunks of chicken in. The food was overall a massive disappointment and we would not have picked to have any of this. the table next to us received their pudding which was a cheesecake that was still frozen and had cress on the top of it ? We took one look and decided we didn’t want to have the pudding. I asked the waiter if we could leave the pudding and they said it was fine. As we were sat there we noticed a lot of tables having food which was not on the set menu . I questioned a waiter if we actually had to have the set menu and he replied “ erm I’m not sure sorry “ . I then asked another waitress if we had to have the set menu and she said “ if you didn’t want to have it you didn’t have to “ we explained to her that we had asked before we ordered and she shrugged her shoulders and didn’t know what to say . Our bill then came - with the desert added even tho we asked for it not to be bought out . I asked for it to be took off the bill and she refused as it was a set menu . We didn’t want to kick up a big fuss so we just payed the bill and left. We weren’t the only couple to be disappointed as a lot of people around us were also complaining about the fact we were forced into having a set menu when others were ordering what they wanted to.
This meal left us feeling really deflated and like we have wasted £100. I will not be returning . Bad service . Bad food . There are much better Indians in derby
