I approached Warmup support about a 4ie underfloor heating controller which first failed 8 months after the warranty period expired. When I contacted warmup I politely asked for one of two outcomes, 1) application of their discretion to replace the controller given it has not lasted very long (not durable which is part of the definition of quality of supplied goods in the Consumer Rights Act 2015) before breakdown and the breakdown wasn't a repairable component (i.e. a relay) I could fix myself or; 2) provide me with enough information so that I could get the controller repaired myself since the controller does not command the mains voltage relay anymore suggesting a Low Voltage control line issue in the controller. Their attitude all the way through has been that it is my tough luck for buying their product. Had it failed just a few months earlier they would have replaced the unit out of warranty as a gesture of good will as they "always give a few (3) months grace period after the end of the warranty period" (quote from their tech support). However a month or more later and it seems customers who pay the same price for the same product do not get the same fair treatment from Warmup and all bets are off. Secondly they will offer no help whatsoever to me in the form of information should I wish to try to repair the unit myself. This is despite a new law coming to the UK soon which gives the consumer a right to repair, and an obligation for manufacturers to provide parts and information. They don't even give a reason for not providing information, they just say they are not going to do so. If the controllers and support are anything to go by their other products will not last very long and you will not be treated with any sympathy by warmup's technical support whatsoever. Instead you will be expected to purchase a brand new unit. By their own admission you will be treated unequally from other customers and will be expected to buy new products from them. My question to you is why would you do this if they have a short life span and Warmup doesn't care after they have sold it to you? My advice is to avoid Warmup products. I am now looking for an alternative controller I can use with my existing installation. This policy of warmup's is bad for both the environment and the consumer but not unsurprisingly is all good for warmup's profits. I think this is a good example of wasteful, environmentally damaging consumerism which warmup are promoting with their policies and products. It runs roughshod through their other green credentials.
