I ordered a book for my dad and paid for first-class postage to ensure it arrived before Christmas. However, my order was put on hold for 30 days before Waterstones finally dispatched it. This delay was initiated by Waterstones and, apparently, is permitted by PayPal. During this time, I was unable to cancel the order or open a dispute.
Unsurprisingly, Christmas came and went, and at the end of January, Waterstones created a second PayPal invoice—without my knowledge—before sending the book, preventing me from cancelling the order. Despite contacting Waterstones multiple times, I never received a response. Fortunately, PayPal intervened and refunded me the equivalent amount that Waterstones had taken.
When my father finally received the book, it turned out to be the US edition, making it irrelevant for use in the UK—perhaps explaining the unnecessary 30-day delay.
An absolute shambles of a company! Awful product, awful service!
