Call it helicopter parenting or call it a midlife crisis, but my sons wanted to learn to skate and I thought it would be cool to learn with them. It became clear that a kmart popsicle board was not the ideal learning tool for my complete noob 130kg "husky" frame. I wanted a big(ger) cruising board with a bit of carveability to make the most of what I expected to be some very casual cruising around the suburb. A couple of weeks of online research helped me land on landyachtz cruiser for my first (real) board.
Unfortunately Landyachtz doesn't have the market saturation in Aus of Globe, Santa Cruz or Powell-Peralta... it was important to me to shop local but finding a melbourne stockist was hard. On top of that was the lingering awareness I was a 40+yo hack sticking his nose in a much younger person's game - so I've been kind of intimidated out of some brick and mortar stores in the past by staff clearly confused with this fat "suit" is asking about RKPs and hardest possible bushings. At the end of the day Kick Push was the only Australian stockist I could find selling a Landyachtz Surf Life. So I ordered from them and thought that would be it.
I was genuinely surprised with how quickly Derin from the store emailed me to confirm order was on its way and welcome to the customer base. As you can tell from above, I'm a bit of an over-sharer but they kept responding and the board arrived ASTOUNDINGLY quickly.
I want to buy some pads now I'm picking up speed, and my two boys are jealous of my sweet ride so each are expecting a new board for their upcoming birthdays. It's very clear where I'm going to go now for all my skateboard needs. Couldn't be happier.
