“Booked a collection of two sofas and a washing machine. Guy said they couldn't take sofas because "arms had collapsed" they hadn't. Wouldn't take washing machine because there was soiling in the rubber seal. This is second d hand stuff. It's not perfect. Had to take items to the tip. BHF website and phone calls never mentioned any criteria on the goods I was giving away. Poor service. Not impressed. Won't offer them any free stuff again.”

“Bloke from BHF came a few days ago to do viewing and told me what they would and wouldn't take and the reasons. I said just take what you can sell in shop. My husband will dump anything else. Bloke made a list of what they would take. Called and arranged for collection. Was charged £60 even though everything to be sold in store! Clearance men turned up today (after being told at shop yesterday before when I paid that they had no record of anything). They took a kitchen table and chairs and nest of tables. They told me they couldn't take dining room wall unit that was on list,.. something about solid back? (One of them didn't speak a word of English). I said I have paid £60 for removal of wall unit and other furniture. They were adamant they couldn't take it. Went upstairs and said they couldn't take vintage dressing table and matching wardrobe without destroying them. I said we could do that ourselves for nothing! They said there is no way they can take them I said why did the other bloke list them then. Seeing as they weren't going to take what had been listed and what I had paid for to be taken (FOR THEM TO SELL IN STORE so why did I have to pay?) Told them to take the couple of items they had taken, out of their van and put back in house and I wanted a refund (which I got). Absolutely disgusting service. Clearance men who can't remove a wall unit and get a wardrobe downstairs. Complete joke! Was incredibly stressed and extremely upset. They are terrible!”

“I have all my items ready for collection. 7am to 1pm they said. Just received a call at 12.15pm to say they are not coming as the van is not working! I have waited in all morning (and got up early!). My heart is now racing with anger!”

“I arranged to have a house clearance. A very grumpy, slightly rude man came round (without mask despite BHF saying they are Covid secure) and made list. When I rang to arrange collection, they said they'd lost the list and I would have to make a list myself. Then I organised for 11 boxes to be removed by another BHF shop. I stayed in and it was a no-show. They said they had no knowledge of my call two days before. What a waste of time. I have looked to other charities and wouldn't bother with this one again.”

“Appalling service!! Arrange inspection and following 5 days later clearance of a deceased uncles flat. Driver was rude , abrupt and unhelpful. After booking days off work was told couldn’t clear the flat as previously arranged as they had a big house clearance to do! Was told we had made a mistake and it wasn’t in their diary but I actually watched the man write it in and my elderly Dad went in to confirm the week before! The actual quote we got was extortionate so I can only assume that they preferred to do the large house clearance for even more money.I always support BHF as I have heart problems myself but our experience has totally put me off donating or assisting them in the future, which is a shame because of a few bad apples”

“Absolutely furious! Wasted whole day waiting for collection of TV cabinet, nest of oak tables and Arts and Crafts double wardrobe - all in excellent condition. Problems happen but a courtesy call costs nothing. Will not be using them again.”

“Delivered a settee to my father, who is in his 60's, got it into the hall way and decided they didn't have time to help him get it into the lounge so left, leaving my father to move the settee on his own to be able to get upstairs to use the toilet.”

“Took time off work for collection of a single bed plus mattress, large mirror, bedside cabinet and two sacks of clothes. No show. No call to say would not be attending. Rang person booking and got another pick up date and yet again time off work. No show due to collectors being in a queue caused by accident (fair enough) but then no call to rearrange. Went through website to book yet another pick up and arranged someone to be here to sign the piece of paper. Took all but the mattress since it had a mark - absolutely tiny mark on the SIDE of the mattress where it had been propped up for three weeks against a brick wall because they could not collect any earlier. Not a good service and would never use again.”

“Appalled: they were aggressive and completely unreasonable. Had booked to take two drawer units, IKEA table and upright piano. Refused to take table - screw missing so fair enough, couldn't get piano through door immediately so refused it. I explained that it needed to be upended (as it has been on every previous move) but they just dumped it and marched off. I am apoplectic, especially as I've been waiting for a month. Don't go bhf for any solutions.”

“Arranged a pick up of four boxes of clothes, three items of furniture and an electric fireplace. They arrived and collected the furniture, informed me they could only take the three boxes of clothing and were not allowed to take the fireplace. I showed them the email to say they had confirmed collection of the fireplace and four boxes. They were disinterested and left. I emailed bhf three weeks ago about the issue but unfortunately I have had no reply. Poor service”

“I made a monetary donation to commemorate my late brother in law. The BHF web page indicated that a letter would be sent to a person of my choice (his widow) indicating that a donation had been made in his memory. It is now over a month and not only has the letter materialised but my e-mails and phone calls have been unanswered. Having just read that the CEO of the BHF was paid a £174,000 salary (2017) I will definitely not be donating again to this charity.”

“Absolutely appauling service from the customer service department. Twice someone was coming to collect goods and twice they made excuses for their drivers not turning up. I support the BHF for personal reasons but will never contact them again for donating furniture.”

“Arranged my excellent condition corner sofa to be collected. I said in the shop there was a tear on the back of one piece. As soon as the driver saw it he sent a pic to someone and said we can't take it. This was a very expensive item when new and over £3000 . I'm certain they could have got something from a person in need. I then paid to have it taken away and the rubbish collector was amazed I was throwing it away. I will donate to a different charity next time !!!”

“I bought lots of furniture at BHF Coventry. They promised delivering the next day, I waited all day without their appearance. I went to enquire why the next day, I was told the driver called and I did not respond, they came to my house and rang the door and no response. Then I showed them my phone to show me the missed call from the driver and to my suprise they couldn't answer. What they did was to take the half hazard driver to a corner to cover up their lies. I was told the furniture will be brought on Monday but I have to pay another 20 pounds for delivery, which I did. When they brought the furniture the bed frame was not included I told the driver that the frame was attached to the bed when I paid for it, he insisted it was apart that I should sign the delivery papers that I have received all , I couldn't be more annoyed for their incompetence. I regretted not reading the reviews first nor taking photos of the things I bought. They are LIERS. They STEAL BY TRICK. This is not a charity.”

“Arranged a pick up for a sofa. Could hear the driver say to his co-driver that they "couldn't be f*cked to move another sofa", before they even saw the sofa to move they said it was too old and it too bad a condition. When I showed them the one they were actually meant to pick up the said the same. It's a year old and been barely used, literally getting rid of it as we dont use it and want to use the space different. Absolutely disgusting.”

“Awful experience. Arranged a collection for 3 seater sofa, Finchley branch. The driver rude and inpatient, on the way out the leg came out, we fixed it in 5minutes, but the driver couldn't wait even for 3minutes! Left without the item which by the way was in excellent condition. Very disappointed, it's a shame that people like them represent BHF.”

“AWFUL! I booked a collection for some darker coloured units as I am moving house and want some bright new furniture. I had no idea what time the collection was happening on the day as I did not receive any updates. As soon as I showed one of the pieces of furniture the driver turns around and say 'No good, we cannot take'. I asked why and he points out at some minor cosmetic scratches on the surface, which of course over time you will get with older furniture but it was not tatty to the point where it could not sell. I showed him the other furniture, much to my annoyance and again said 'No good, we cannot take, you will have to find somewhere to dump it'. I was completely shocked and annoyed, not only did they refuse to take the furniture which had minor cosmetic surface damage (no cracks, no pieces missing, no breaks), all in perfectly good working condition, they also promoted fly tipping which is a major problem in the town currently (Swindon). Well done British Heart Foundation, useless, I will not be using your services again. A sad shame as this could have raised a nice amount for the charity.”

“Requested a collection of some electrical items, all good condition with handbooks, and other quality goods of clothes and household items. No response so contacted the Eastleigh branch. The man was not interested in the electrical items and suggested we take the goods to the shop. We are elderly so could not carry them. A missed opportunity to raise money and have gift aid.”
