“I was referred to Relationships Australia during a difficult and distressing period in my life, seeking support and guidance regarding concerns of financial infidelity or abuse within my relationship. After reaching out to 1800RESPECT, I was connected with Connie Easterbrook and scheduled individual counselling sessions.
Initially, Ms. Easterbrook appeared empathetic and understanding, which gave me hope for positive change in my relationship. However, as our sessions progressed, it became apparent that the focus was shifting away from the issues I had initially sought help for. While we continued with numerous counselling sessions over approximately a year, the core issues of financial transparency and my partner's alcohol use were not adequately addressed.
Unfortunately, the lack of attention to these critical issues left me feeling further distressed and as though my time had been wasted. I had hoped for a more substantial and effective intervention. Moreover, the fact that I was charged $50 per session, and my partner paid $100 per session, raises questions about the value and effectiveness of the service provided.
Considering that Relationships Australia receives significant government funding to support Australian families and communities, totalling approximately $36,229,255.00 for one year, I expected a more comprehensive and outcome-oriented service. Regrettably, my experience did not reflect the value I would have anticipated given the substantial funding provided by taxpayers.
I believe that constructive feedback is essential for improvement, and I hope that this feedback will contribute to a more effective and impactful service for individuals seeking support in the future.”
