"Whiskey tobacco does indeed smell like whiskey and tobacco, which was great until I sprayed extra on myself because the play-doh one has a half-life of about fifteen minutes and I expected this to be the same. \r\nFor about half an hour it was like I'd crawled into my uncle's tobacco pouch at a family party and then he'd tossed it onto the dining table without realising the table was covered in spilled whiskey and warm bourbon and then the leather flap stuck shut and I was suffocating in there. I was pretty sure I could hear ABC radio playing back-to-back Perry Como tunes. \r\n\r\nThen suddenly the scent shifted and suddenly it was the scent of my father when I was 5 years old and he came home at the end of the day and hugged me and helped put me to bed. Old coffee, his cigarettes rolled between his fingers before he smoked them, the nip of scotch he'd sneaked in while mum finished the dishes, and a metallic hint of sweat. It might sound awful but it's so far from it. My father has been dead for years but I'd missed that smell even before then because our scents change as we age and he hadn't smelled like that for years, maybe even decades. \r\n\r\nAnd now he's right here again. My dad is hugging me and I'm hugging him back and breathing him in, and in a few minutes he'll sing Miss Polly Had a Dolly and then Mum will read me a story and all is right with the world because of course it is. I have a lifetime ahead of me. "
