Having now had a few months and several outings with the kayaks, once you’re out on the water, I don’t believe that there’s a lot of difference in speed or tracking ability between the AF models and more conventional plastic sit-in recreational kayaks, particularly once you install the backbone, which I highly recommend. Performance is OK enough without it, but I’ve found that installing the backbone improved performance quite significantly.
Where the AdvanceFrame models really DO have it all over hard kayaks, is comfort. Since you’re sitting on an inflated floor and well supported by the high seat-back and your feet are braced against the foot bar (Expedition) or inflatable foot brace (AdvFrame), I’ve found I can paddle for much longer, without getting a sore or numb backside or without my feet “going to sleep” from being pressed against hard pedals.
A great alternative for solo paddlers/travellers without a second person to assist getting a kayak on/off car roof racks or without the space to store a conventional kayak - both of which apply in my case.
I hope that all helps.
