The teacher was Sandy and he was full of energy and enthusiasm (and knowledge). My group made hammers and it was a lot of fun. Made a normal hammer and a couple of custom variations, an ice pick hammer and a nut cracking hammer. Was surprised we got away with the custom ones but this was a second visit and we had made the normal hammer already (and it was so good we came back for seconds). Having had the normal hammer for a couple of years it really stands out how hard the tool steel is. I polished it to a mirror finish when making it and it’s still almost unmarked today despite using it to whack centre punches really hard. I expect our new custom hammers (ice pick and nutcracker) will be the same, but they’re great just as talking pieces, “oh that, I made that, it’s for…”. Was a good bonding exercise. I suggested the wife and I come back next month and make battle axes for our anniversary but it didn’t go down as well as I hoped.
