Excellent resources. I couldn't think of any resources that does a better job in explaining how Mechanical/ HVAC system works in the simpliest way possible.

The Mech 101 course is great. The indepth disucssions between the teacher and students is a great way to learn. The interaction of questions throughout the course is also very helpful. Multiple different sources are cited and provided to dive deeper into the systems. I would recommend this course.

Mechanical Systems is a monster of a topic to study on your own. This course breaks it down into digestible components, making the different types of mechanical systems much clearer. What I really appreciated was the real-world application and supporting documents. You know when you’re reading study materials and end up jumping to Google Images just to see what something looks like in real life? Those visuals and references are already built into the course. It’s also much more participatory than other study materials. The sessions are recorded with live participants who are learning right alongside you, so the questions you find yourself asking while watching are often the same ones being answered in real time.

The biggest game-changer in this course was how the complex parts of mechanical systems were explained in a simplified, easy-to-understand way. The breakdowns and visuals helped everything finally make sense, and I feel more confident applying this info both in exam questions and real design situations. This topic initially really intimidated me and now I feel like I can navigate all the books better and apply to the exam objectives more confidently as well.

Before taking this course, mechanical systems felt like a foreign language to me. I barely understood the basics, and the thought of HVAC diagrams or system types made my head spin. But this course changed everything. The instructor had a way of breaking things down clearly and logically—starting with the fundamentals and building layer by layer until everything clicked. From understanding the difference between VAV and VRF systems to grasping psychrometrics (yes, really!), I went from guessing on practice questions to actually knowing the answers. The course covered all the major system types, explained how they work in real buildings, and connected the dots between diagrams, code references, and test questions. It made a topic that once felt intimidating feel totally manageable—and even kind of fun. If you’re feeling overwhelmed by mechanical systems, this course is the bridge between confusion and clarity. Highly recommend!

The Mechanical 101 series is one of the most valuable and well-organized resources I’ve come across for understanding mechanical systems in architecture and studying for the AREs. It breaks down complex concepts across various building types and system variations in a way that finally made everything click for me. What I appreciated most was how the series didn’t just list technical details—it explained the "why" behind each system, and how to choose the right one based on a building’s design and efficiency needs. This kind of practical, application-based knowledge is hard to come by, and I had spent so much time struggling to piece it together on my own before discovering this. The series contains several hours of content, but it never feels overwhelming—everything is clearly structured and easy to follow. Even more inspiring is that it’s taught by Vanlim Ma, a former bootcamper who learned this material while studying for the AREs and is now a licensed architect. That made the series feel even more relatable and encouraging. If you're prepping for the AREs or just looking to deepen your understanding of mechanical systems, this series is an incredible resource. I highly recommend it!
