The 550mm diameter was just too short for my surfski (placed deck down) so I cut the rear one in half and sewed pieces of nylon material over the exposed section. Came out very well. Can send photo if desired.
Service life: The key is UV tolerance of the outer cloth material, compression set of the foam pad and the quality of the Velcro. Time will tell.
Improvement idea: I was thinking if the top of the pad (contact to the object being carried), was augmented with a grippy/ non slip material, it may mean that you could use less force to secure the load? Just an idea because it’s an important consideration with delicate loads.”
