The Nexus Citric Acid Cleaning Cartridge is an easy-to-use solution to hard water scaling within any Nexus water ionizer.
Citric Acid Cleaning Cartridge Directions:
Gently tilt the Top Spout up above the height of the ionizer & clip the acidic hose at an equal height. [Both hoses are up higher than the machine, because you don't want the citric acid water to drain until this process is done.]
Remove the second filter and insert the correct Citric Acid Cleaning Cartridge for your machine.
Run the water ionizer on Level 1 or 2 Alkaline mode for a few seconds, until it starts to come out of the tip of the spout.
Let it sit for a few hours, or overnight.
When the time is up, set the machine hoses back down in their normal spots. The under-sink ionizer hoses should have already stayed in the normal positions.
Remove the empty Cartridge and return the regular filter #2, or replace filters if it's time for a filter change.
Rinse the machine for about a minute once you have the normal filter inserted properly. Use the neutral (filtered water) mode for this step.
Note: The Jupiter and Nexus Citric Acid Filters are the same. With Jupiter ionizers, remove the rubber gasket at the bottom of the filter and it will fit.

Cartridge works great at cleaning machine. Only downside is that it is shipped with a very shallow black spacer on the bottom of the cartridge. This shallow spacer doesn't make a proper seal around the Nexus Smart 7P's bottom o-ring allowing the citric acid solution to leak into my machine during the hour cleaning period. I have to keep filling up my machine with water in order to keep it full and cleaning up the spill left in the process. Halfway thru this cleaning process, I removed the cleaning cartridge and grabbed the spacer from the last cartridge I used and double stacked them. With one spacer on top of the other, this seems to have made a proper seal with no more leaking. Advising the manufacturer to replace the spacer with a taller one should remedy this situation. Until then, the double stack method seems to work fine on my Smart 7P.
