I normally use an electric water ionizer, but I use this pitcher regularly, whenever I travel. It's so easy to carry a couple of filter cartridges around to use on the fly. Once home I'll dry them out and store them to save the filter life.
Plastic bottles are bad for you and the environment, so I never buy bottled. But when you're flying that's all the airline offers. Ordinary filtered water is just not good enough for me. I guess I'm spoiled to the benefits of alkaline water.

Operating the Alkaline Water Pitcher & Getting the Best Results
The pH pitcher removes chlorine & raises pH.
Alkaline water pitchers work best when you keep the filter moist. When done right the pitcher raises pH to 8.5-9.7 easily. The best way to test this is with pH reagent drops.
The "new filter" set-up is different from regular daily use...two separate things.
During "new filter" set-up (any time you install a new filter) the purpose of rinsing is to remove the loose carbon dust inside the filter. If the water looks grey, it still needs more rinsing. Once it looks clear you're good to go until the next time you insert a new filter.
The rinsed filter is now "wet" and will be ready to go in about 20 minutes. It takes about 20 minutes for the time-release magnesium balls in the filter to activate.
Any time in the future that the filter is dry, just pour about a cup of water into it to re-wet the filter. 20 minutes later you're good to go. Or if you scatter your use throughout the day the filter will stay wet enough for instant use.
By the way, these are simply suggestions. If you don't follow them you still will get fine water. It's just that following the above guidelines will make sure you get as good results as you see online in any of my video tests.
What causes the variables in the alkaline pH pitcher's ability to ionize?
Inside the filter are magnesium balls, which are time-release. When moist it prepares the outer layer of magnesium for release. With moderate filter use throughout the day, this filter retains enough moisture to keep these balls ready for action.
With or Without Timer?
The Timer Piece for the Alkaline Plus Pitcher is available separately, or you can choose the third or fourth option, above.
The timer only counts the days for you and calculates the filter expiration, based on the number of users you select. You can do this with or without a timer.
If you place the timer piece in the refrigerator it may malfunction because of possible condensation. We do not guarantee these timer pieces, and the pitcher will last many more years than the timer will. These are things to think about when deciding to purchase the pitcher with or without timer.
Timer Piece Installation: If you choose the timer option we will send you the timer flip-top-piece separately. It will be up to you to install it. The video shows how to replace or exchange the top flip-piece on the lid.
Setting or Re-Setting the Timer
If there is a film covering the screen remove it so you can see better.
Push and hold the start button for 5 seconds and let go.
If you see the screen has an "X" over the filter icon then double-click the start button right away. This should give you a screen with a single face flashing on the left.
If step 3 doesn't get rid of the "X", or you just get a blank screen, repeat step 2 and 3.
To change the number of faces, wait for the screen to show faces flashing, then do "Quick clicks" until you see the number of faces you want. [Each face represents numbers of gallons you expect to make each day.]
When the correct number of faces are flashing on the screen, then push/hold the start button for 5 seconds. It should now be set, and you should see the correct number of faces with a filter icon and no flashing.
Just leave it this way. Eventually the screen will go blank, but any time you want you can give a quick push to the start button to see the proper screen again.
There is no noise when the timer runs out. What happens is you give a quick push to the start button and will see a screen with an "X" over the filter. This means it's time to change the filter, after which you should go through the steps above to reprogram it.
At one gallon per day the filter should need changing in two months. You don't need to use the timer to know this. A calendar or mental note will do.
The timer is electronic and shouldn't get wet. It is not a guaranteed feature, and is there for convenience and/or decoration only, as it has no relation to the proper functioning of the filter. It's also not suggested to store the timer in the refrigerator. What could happen is that condensation could possibly form inside the timer and short out the electronics.

How to Install the Lock-Tight Lid
Remove the bin & lid from the pitcher
Insert the back of the lid onto the back of the bin (see video).
Pushing down at the back while moving the lid forward and into place jimmy (slightly wiggle or vibrate if needed) the rest of the lid until it locks into place. Now the lid will be locked in tight and won't come loose until you want it to.
The lock-tight lid can remain in place for as long as you own the pitcher. You can remove it but don't have to.
How to Use - After the Lid is Installed
You never have to remove the locked-in lid unless you want to.
Simply use the flip-top to add water to the bin.
To insert or change filters, just remove the bin and unscrew the old filter. The new filter screws easily.
Once the filter is in, put the whole assembly back into the pitcher.

Trouble-Shooting a Clogged Filter
If the filter is overpacked (clogged), follow these simple instructions to fix it. Also, let us know about the problem and we'll include a free filter with your next order.
Shake it, and then try again.
Or, if that doesn't work, immerse it in cold water and soak it for 10 minutes, then shake it and try again.
Or, if that doesn't resolve it, add a tbsp. of vinegar to the water and soak for 20 minutes
If it still seems clogged, soak it overnight and try again.

Note (suggestion): During a meal heavy with meat, wait 20 minutes before and after the meal to drink alkaline water. Or, add a squeeze of lemon to the water. This will bring the pH down to neutral. Meat likes a neutral pH to digest
