The Backdraft innovations Phoenix is one snappy HPA engine. response is amazing. Too early to tell how efficient it is for air consumption, but velocity is stable and BB grouping is slightly better then the motor, gears and piston it replaced. The FCU that comes with it is very small. It can fit just about anywhere. It is very barebones though. Programming is trigger pull, selector switch manipulation and counting out loud to change the selector modes from full, burst, binary and semi-lock. Turn two pots with a small flathead screwdriver to adjust dwell and rate of fire. It's basic BUT it works. Honestly, I don't see what bells and whistles need to be added. At this price point, the FCU is more than good enough. Testing rounds per second(RPS), it seems to get unstable if you go past 23.5 RPS. this was tested with midcaps and hi-caps on an Acetech chrono. Again, at this price point, 23 RPS is pretty darn respectable. Overall recommend.

The leak we originally had was due to a missing O-ring that, when placed, there was no more leak. However, the piston required greasing up the o-rings before the engine worked as expected.

I was excited to try a new more economical hpa engine. I love the concept of a more affordable option that still offers superior performance. Having researched the beta versions and watching the changes made to develop the product you can see they are steadily improving the quality of the unit. However there is an issue of mounting and combat ability with the trigger board. They should have gone with an optical setup like the perun v2, which would allow it to adapt to any gearbox using stickers to trigger optical sensors. The trigger board only has one mounting hole and ended up spinning around that pivot point to the point the trigger did not even engage the switch anymore. I will need to use some kind of adhesive or jb weld to secure it in place. Also had issues with selector plate engaging the back switch on the trigger board. Long story short, it’s worth the price but I feel it needs a re design on the trigger and or other options to select based on the gearbox being used. When it does function, it works great. But If you want something that works without much effort there are more expensive products on the market which will be easier to install. And shout out to amped airsoft! For helping collaborate with backdraft innovations and always having great customer service!
