Biology Textbook Reviews

4 Rating 4 Reviews
I love how organized and well-written the science curriculum is written! It is easy to use and open and go! My only drawback, as this is our 2nd year using apologia, is that I wish it was richer in God, Creation and the Bible. There is not really much of that emphasis as I've seen with some other science curriculums. All in all, I love this science curriculum!

I am the only high school math and science teacher at a small Christian school in NM. I chose Apologia for all of my science curriculums because it's the best I've used to teach real science with a Christian worldview. The kids love the pacing and labs. They have made my job easier with the Student Notebooks too!

The textbook is wonderful. The information is thorough and engaging. My only complaint is that the tests are not a good indication of what the students have learned. Often, the questions are not reflected in the study guide. Some of the questions seem obscure and/or designed to "trick" the students. An example would be chapter 10 expecting students to know the Latin names for various pathogenic fungi. We are introducing biology to 9th grade students, not testing medical school students? I think that the tests need to be rewritten to reflect the big picture concepts covered by the textbook.

Its a bit annoying to be lectured about someones opinions of how climate change isnt real due to a logical fallacy ridden argument in a science textbook, its even worse when they straight up deny carbon dioxide being a greenhouse gas, which is a fact and not a theory like global warming. Otherwise, an ok book with some text sections being a bit too dense for efficient note taking but pretty well laid out everywhere else. Also, the textbook is made almost entirely irrelevant by digital writing except for a few questions due to all the questions being in the textbook. I provided pictures of the sections on climate change so that anyone who is considering purchasing these books can see and decide for themselves whether or not these should be in a book that teaches kids about science and not someones beliefs. Also, if anyones wondering, I am the one taking these courses and I have a high interest in science and how it should be taught, which is why it bothers me so much. For anyone else, it probably wouldnt be that big of a deal, but for those who do care about stuff like this, I figure you should know ahead of time
