I was a bit apprehensive about a non military surplus item, but have to say this is a quality item. It’s not heavy which is nice and as for waterproof it certainly is, the chin strap is handy for those windy wet days. It certainly is light and ventilated enough that when the sun comes out it’s really not an issue. Better than waxed cotton waterproof hats by miles.

“Working outside means you need to protect yourself from not only the sun, but also the rain! This hat accomplishes both of those duties flawlessly. Having the narrower brim means it will not sag and flop like many other hats of up to double the price! Since I'm living in Queensland (Australia) and conveniently my partner is from Christchurch, I was going to send her in to the retail store to pick up some gear I had my eyes on, however when the sale for free shipping to Australia popped up I decided I couldn't wait any longer (and she would probably get the wrong stuff anyway).
