“I have been using the router for a few weeks now and I am generally satisfied with its performance. The wifi part is good, I live in a 120 square metre apartment and the signal is good throughout the apartment. Some devices that require a more intensive exchange of information with the PC (a wireless printer) work faster if the printer, PC and router are not too far apart. It is important to select a security mode with data encryption in the router settings (default settings are without encryption).
Downloading the updated firmware from the Asus website and then uploading the downloaded file is much faster than doing it from the router's settings in OTA upgrade mode. The update process is smooth. Resetting the router is much quicker when done via the dedicated button on the router itself, whereas doing it via the router settings is very slow.
The LTE reception aspects of the router are something for which I am unable to give a definitive assessment. I live in a rural area where the LTE signal is not optimal, and the download rate varies between 10 and 25 Mbit/sec during the day, probably also driven by the telephone service provider. I have not tested the use of an external antenna, but it is very important to place the router in the best possible position for reception and to check the RSRP values directly from the router status.
I give a 5 star rating also in consideration of the really low price of the router itself.”
