I love Festool products and have purchased many of them. I enjoy nothing more in the shop than using the track saw or a powered sander; they work beautifully and the dust extraction is superb. This jigsaw is the first disappointing tool I have purchased from Festool and I'm trying to decide whether or not to even keep it. It is made well so it's not a quality issue; the problem is that I have a Bosch cordless jigsaw and it weighs much less, is so much more compact, and delivers far more precision than the Festool. I find myself reaching for the Bosch every time I need a jigsaw and I use them almost every day. In addition, there is the common complaint about the Festool not be able to perform angled cuts without changing the base, but the change is quick and easy and I don't see it as anything other than an irritation and another expense for the additional base. I also don't like the automatic speed function of the Festool, when you start the cut it suddenly jacks up the power and the saw takes off, again making precision difficult to achieve. Of course you just turn it off (the auto feature) but it's too bad it doesn't work better. It is also very difficult to see the blade during a cut. You cannot depend on the pointer on the front of the plastic blade guard, esp during turns, and you just cannot see the blade without taking out the guard, and then the blade does wobble much more than I've seen in other saws, despite a careful adjustment per the manual. The strobe light is completely disorienting and it's tedious to turn off; I ended up keeping the guard but turning off all the lights as the way to best see the cut as it happens. Any light reflects off the guard so you'll have to decide between the guard or the light. The dust extraction does work, not as well as their other tools, but I can see it would be tough to get all the sawdust from around the blade with a jigsaw. If you're in the shop with a vacuum handy I like to use it, but when I'm out on a work site obviously it's not convenient. Overall, the major problem is the massive size and weight which make it very difficult to do fine work. And btw, I've also had the corded versions and they are also large and heavy so it's not a problem with the battery. If I keep the saw it will be only for cutting larger timber that is 3-4 inches thick and relatively crude cuts. For working with smaller stock I would advise one of the mass market saws, and I've had very good luck with the Bosch and you can buy a cordless and a corded version for much less than one of these Festool saws.
